No. Square Enix’s one-word “YUNA” post sparked hopes for a Final Fantasy X remake or sequel, but it confirmed no project. The post appeared on February 18, 2025; the later Switch 2 release is an HD remaster of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, not a newly announced remake.

What did Square Enix post?

On February 18, 2025, the official Square Enix account posted one word: “YUNA.” A contemporaneous report connected the name to the character from Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. It was a character-focused social post, not an announcement explaining a new game. TheGamer’s report described fans hoping for a remake and speculating about a possible Final Fantasy X-3.

Those reactions were fan interpretations. The post itself did not confirm a remaster, remake, or sequel, and there is no basis in this announcement to say Square Enix teased any of them.

Is a Final Fantasy X remake confirmed?

No remake or Final Fantasy X-3 announcement is established by the “YUNA” post or the anniversary material discussed here. The confirmed release relevant to the speculation is FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster for Nintendo Switch 2: a remastered version of the existing games, not a remake. Square Enix’s official anniversary page lists the Switch 2 release and describes its two-game contents.

What is the Switch 2 release?

The Switch 2 version brings together the HD remasters of the 2001 Final Fantasy X and its sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, in one package. Square Enix lists a digital release on July 23, 2026, and a package release on August 27, 2026. The page also lists game-boost options for changing game speed, enhancing characters, and adjusting encounter rates.

Square Enix lists existing versions of the HD Remaster for PS4, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One as well. Store availability and product listings can vary by region, so check the relevant local store for current details.

Why did the post prompt remake speculation?

Yuna is a central character in both games: she appears in Final Fantasy X and is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy X-2. Her name naturally pointed fans toward the series, but a character’s name on social media is not evidence that a specific game is in development. The report described excitement qualitatively; it supplied no measured audience count or poll that would support saying fans were “clamoring” in a quantified sense.

What did Square Enix confirm for the 25th anniversary?

Square Enix marked Final Fantasy X’s 25th release anniversary on July 19, 2026, with anniversary material that included a commemorative video, the Switch 2 HD Remaster, and merchandise. Those later anniversary announcements provide context, but they do not retroactively turn the 2025 post into a remake teaser. The North American announcement is available on Square Enix’s anniversary page.
