Did the AC Shadows Delay Push Back Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Roadmap?

A 2024 report said the Assassin's Creed Shadows delay would push back other Ubisoft roadmap projects. Ubisoft had not confirmed that at the time, and here is what has been confirmed since.

Partly, and only in reporting. In October 2024, TechTimes relayed Tom Henderson’s account of an internal email from franchise executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté, which said the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows would push back other projects in Ubisoft’s franchise roadmap. Ubisoft had not officially confirmed a wider roadmap delay at the time, and the report did not establish a verified schedule for any of those other games. Ubisoft’s own statements since then cover Shadows‘ release dates and give a limited, undated look at what comes next.

Shadows’ release dates, in order

The only roadmap item with confirmed dates is Assassin’s Creed Shadows itself. The sequence below uses the source and date for each change.

Date of announcement Source Release date stated
Before October 2024 (original plan) As cited in the October 5, 2024 TechTimes report November 2024

November 20, 2024 Ubisoft community post February 14, 2025
January 9, 2025 Ubisoft strategic update March 20, 2025

The January move is the only one Ubisoft explained in its own words, and it came with a specific reason.

Why Ubisoft says it added the extra month

In its January 9, 2025 strategic update, Ubisoft said it gave Shadows an extra month of development so the team could better incorporate player feedback gathered over the previous three months. Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, put it this way:

What the October 2024 report claimed about the wider roadmap

TechTimes attributed its roadmap claims to Henderson’s reporting about the internal email. The article itself stated that Ubisoft had not officially announced other delays, so the claims below are reported expectations, not company statements.

A Black Flag remake moving from 2025 to 2026

According to the report, a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was expected to move from 2025 to 2026. The article did not present this as a Ubisoft-confirmed delay.

Two multiplayer projects shifting to 2026

The report said two multiplayer projects then expected in 2025 would shift to 2026. The article did not name them as Ubisoft-confirmed delays, and those projects have not been tied to official release dates since.

What is not established

No independently verified count of delayed roadmap releases exists in the sources covering this story. The reported dates should not be added up into a confirmed number of delays.

What Henderson reported in May 2025

In May 2025, Henderson reported what he understood to be a six-year plan with at least nine further games. He grouped them as follows:

He said timelines had changed and did not give exact release dates. This is attributed reporting about an understood plan, not an official Ubisoft commitment or target.

What Ubisoft has said publicly since

The most recent official Ubisoft statement on the franchise covered here is a March 4, 2026 update. In it, the company said Shadows was approaching its first anniversary and entering its final support phase, with smaller and less frequent updates planned. The update also described several projects that have not been dated.

Codename HEXE

Ubisoft describes HEXE as a darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience being developed by a veteran team at Ubisoft Montreal. The company says it is taking time to deliver on that project’s vision.

Codename INVICTUS

Ubisoft describes INVICTUS as a PvP multiplayer experience led by For Honor veterans at Ubisoft Montreal, developed with a test-and-learn approach.

Assassin’s Creed Jade and co-op

The update says Assassin’s Creed Jade is among other projects at different development stages. It also says Ubisoft is looking into bringing co-op back and that it recently pivoted away from an early project. No release dates were given for any of these.

Sorting roadmap claims by how much they can be trusted

Roadmap news about Assassin’s Creed mixes three different kinds of information. Keeping them apart prevents rumored dates from being repeated as fact.

Type of claim Examples from this story Status
Officially named project and description HEXE, INVICTUS, and Assassin’s Creed Jade in Ubisoft’s March 4, 2026 update Official; no release dates stated
Reported or speculative project identity The Black Flag remake and two multiplayer projects in the October 2024 report; the six-year breakdown Henderson described in May 2025 Attributed reporting; not confirmed by Ubisoft
Confirmed release date Assassin’s Creed Shadows: February 14, 2025, then March 20, 2025 Announced by Ubisoft

Before repeating a roadmap date, check which row it belongs to. A date from the middle row should be labeled as reported, with the reporter and the publication date.

The 2024 report’s claims are past-tense reporting. They do not mean the game is still unreleased, and older 2025 and 2026 projections should not be read as the current schedule. Ubisoft’s March 2026 update is the best source for what the company now says publicly, but it does not confirm earlier reported schedules.
