Yes. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched on April 22, 2025—so the earlier report that it could arrive as soon as April proved accurate. That date was only a possibility when it was reported in March, however, and Bethesda calls the released game a remaster, not a remake.

What the April 2025 report actually said

On March 13, 2025, GameSpot’s Eddie Makuch reported that NateTheHate expected news in March or April and that release might come sooner than an original June target. GameSpot stressed that the timing was fluid and no concrete release information had been confirmed. It also said sources at VGC corroborated the reporting and that the game could launch as soon as April. GameSpot’s March 13 report was a pre-release forecast, not an announced date from Bethesda.

When and where Oblivion Remastered launched

Bethesda announced on April 22, 2025 that the game was available that day for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with day-one access through Game Pass. Xbox Wire also listed Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam, and the Xbox App for Windows PC. Bethesda’s availability announcement and Xbox Wire’s launch overview confirm the April 22 release.

Why Bethesda calls it a remaster, not a remake

The official title is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda Game Studios said development began in 2021 and described its aim as preserving the original game while updating its art, animation, effects, voices, and systems. The studio put the distinction plainly: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” Bethesda Game Studios’ launch reflection explains the intent.

Is there a physical Switch 2 edition?

Yes. Bethesda announced a Nintendo Switch 2 release for August 11, 2026. The physical Deluxe Edition has a cartridge containing the full base game, Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and additional DLC. Bethesda also lists a digital edition; digital availability does not mean that edition includes a cartridge. See Bethesda’s Switch 2 announcement for the format details. The announcement establishes the physical product, but does not establish current retailer stock or pricing.
