Nintendo’s latest listed update, version 4.0.0, improves visuals and frame rate when Pokémon Scarlet is played on Nintendo Switch 2. Earlier updates fixed specific bugs, but Nintendo’s update notes do not establish that every performance issue was fixed—or that the Switch 2 frame-rate improvement applies to the original Switch.
What the latest update changed
Nintendo lists version 4.0.0 for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet as released on June 2, 2025. Its notes say visuals are improved on the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs, and state: “Frame rate: Improved for smoother movement on Nintendo Switch 2.” Nintendo does not give a numerical before-and-after frame-rate measurement.

The platform qualifier matters: these are the improvements Nintendo documents for playing on Switch 2, not a stated performance patch for the original Switch. Nintendo announced free Switch 2 enhancements for the games on May 29, 2025; the update history specifies the changes.
Which bugs did earlier patches fix?
Version 1.2.0: crashes and raid issues
In its February 28, 2023 patch notes, Pokémon listed multiple fixes, including issues with raid battle HP displays and fainting, as well as a bug that could make the game prone to forcibly closing in certain locations. The notes said fewer Pokémon and people might appear in certain towns or wild areas as a result of the fix. These are documented fixes, not evidence that all launch-era defects were resolved.

Version 3.0.1: progression and item-related problems
Nintendo’s update history lists version 3.0.1, released January 31, 2024, with fixes for several specific issues: an input lock that could occur when leveling an Inkay to level 29 or below with items; a version-exclusive material requirement for crafting TM223; and getting stuck between the Item Printer and a wall in certain circumstances.
A 2023 notice is not confirmation that a fix shipped
A September 2023 Pokémon notice identified an issue where some NPC trainer victories were not recorded, as well as a problem transferring certain Pokémon from Pokémon GO through Pokémon HOME. It said fixes were planned. That notice alone does not confirm that either fix was later released.

Is Pokémon Scarlet better on Switch 2?
Nintendo explicitly lists improved visuals and frame rate for Switch 2. That makes Switch 2 the platform with a documented performance improvement in the latest listed update. The notes do not quantify the change, and they do not promise that all performance issues disappear. If you are playing on an original Switch, the cited notes do not establish that it received the same frame-rate improvement.

- Update Pokémon Scarlet to the latest available version. Nintendo says an update is required to use internet features and that save data remains available after installing an update.
- If playing on Switch 2, version 4.0.0 is the update associated with Nintendo’s documented visual and frame-rate improvements.
- If playing on the original Switch, install available updates for their listed bug fixes, but do not assume the Switch 2-specific frame-rate improvement applies.
The official update history documents selected fixes and platform-specific enhancements; it is not a comprehensive independent assessment of current performance or every remaining bug.
