Some Walmart customers reported Nintendo Switch 2 preorder cancellations shortly before the console launched on June 5, 2025. The available reports do not show that Walmart canceled all or most preorders, how many orders were affected, or that there was one confirmed cause. These are historical launch-period reports—not evidence of a current wave of cancellations.
What happened with Walmart’s Switch 2 preorders?
On June 3, 2025, Nintendo Life reported customer accounts of last-minute Switch 2 preorder cancellations at Walmart, Target, and GameStop. The number of canceled orders was unspecified. One Walmart customer’s reported cancellation message cited a payment error, but that account does not establish why other orders were canceled. Read the June 3 report from Nintendo Life.

During the April 2025 preorder period, Walmart told the Associated Press that its early listings had “sold out quickly due to high demand” and said delivery by June 5 was not guaranteed. That statement concerned demand and delivery timing; it did not confirm or explain the later cancellation reports. Read the Associated Press report.
Did Walmart cancel all or most preorders?
No available figure establishes how many Walmart customers were affected. The reports document individual customer accounts, not a measured company-wide incident. They do not establish a policy to cancel all or most Switch 2 preorders, one cause shared across affected orders, or a guaranteed process for restoring canceled orders.

How to check whether your Walmart order was canceled
- Sign in to the Walmart account used to place the preorder and open the order to check its current status.
- Review Walmart emails and app notifications for that specific order. Check whether the message says the order was canceled or refers to a payment or authorization update.
- If the order is marked canceled, follow the instructions in its notice or contact Walmart support. Walmart’s general help page says, “If we cancel your order, we won’t charge you.” It does not describe a Switch 2-specific reinstatement process. See Walmart’s canceled-orders help page.
An old pending card authorization by itself is not proof that a Switch 2 order was canceled; the available information does not establish that payment holds indicate cancellation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are Walmart Switch 2 listings evidence that an old preorder is safe?
No. Walmart’s current Switch 2 shop page lists the system and other Switch 2 products, but a live listing does not reveal the status of an individual historical preorder. Stock, seller, price, and delivery estimates can change. If you are shopping now, verify those details directly on the listing. View Walmart’s Switch 2 listings.

Nintendo’s May 2026 investor material said the U.S. Switch 2 system price was scheduled to change to $499.99 on September 1, 2026. That later price context does not explain the reported cancellations before the June 2025 launch. See Nintendo’s May 2026 investor material.
