Halo: Campaign Evolved placed No. 6 among PS5 games in the US and Canada and No. 7 in the EU on Sony’s July 2026 PlayStation Store chart. That is a download ranking, not a preorder chart. It does not report units sold or revenue, and it does not show that Microsoft’s decision to release Xbox games on PlayStation caused the placement. The claim that Xbox games topped PlayStation Store preorders is not supported by the evidence published so far.
What Sony’s July 2026 chart actually measures
Sony Interactive Entertainment published the July 2026 chart in a post dated August 10, 2026. The chart ranks purchases made through the PlayStation Store. Sony says it excludes upgrades and games bundled with hardware, so it reflects paid downloads within those rules rather than every copy of a game that reached a player.

The top PS5 entry in both regions was Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Halo: Campaign Evolved sat lower in each list:

| EU | Call of Duty: Black Ops II | No. 7 |
Those positions are the only figures the chart provides for this game. A rank tells you where a title landed relative to other downloads in the same list and month. It does not tell you how many copies sold, how much they earned, or why they landed there.

What Sony’s PS5 listing confirms
Sony’s PS5 games page lists Halo: Campaign Evolved among PS5 titles and in its upcoming and preorder area. That listing establishes that the game is offered for PS5. It leaves several things open:
- The listing we could access does not state a release date.
- It does not establish whether a physical edition is available or in stock at any retailer.
- It does not provide sales figures or any indication of demand.
The 8-to-1 PS5-to-Xbox preorder claim
The clearest attempt to measure preorder interest in this period is a claim that circulated through Windows Central. The outlet reported that IGN’s data showed an 8-to-1 ratio of PS5 to Xbox preorders. According to that report, the figure came from affiliate-link data rather than from order records.

Why the affiliate-link figure is not preorder data
Affiliate-link data counts shopper activity, such as clicks that send a visitor to a retailer. A click does not confirm a completed order, a price, or a platform purchase. Xbox disputed the framing directly. A spokesperson, speaking without a named attribution, told Windows Central: “This doesn’t represent pre-order data. We’ve had record orders. People should wait for real data and not clicks on affiliate links.” The reporting cited does not establish the underlying comparative preorder totals, so the 8-to-1 figure cannot be treated as a sales comparison by either side.
Matthew Ball’s GTA VI statement
On September 24, 2026, GamesRadar reported a statement from Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, about preorders for GTA VI. In the quoted post, Ball wrote: “Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders. The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.”
Rank #3
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
That is a company executive’s account of internal data. The report did not publish the figures behind it, and GamesRadar did not independently verify the claim. Because no totals accompany the statement, it cannot be checked against the 8-to-1 affiliate figure or against any PlayStation data.

The headline’s suggestion that multiplatform release has paid off in commercial terms requires evidence that the published reporting does not provide. A credible case would need:
Rank #4
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- Actual unit sales or preorder counts, reported for the same titles and time window on each platform.
- Revenue or net proceeds, not only rank or share.
- Release timing, so that a launch-week spike is not compared with a full month of sales.
- Platform availability, including whether a title was offered on PlayStation at launch.
- A comparison baseline, such as the same publisher’s single-platform releases in a similar period.
None of these items has been published for the titles discussed here. No independently verified preorder count, revenue figure, or profit attributable to the cross-platform strategy appears in the coverage available as of this writing. Halo: Campaign Evolved’s presence in Sony’s July download chart is real, but it is a position in one ranking, and it does not establish that Microsoft’s multiplatform approach has produced measurable returns.

The accurate version of this story is narrower than the headline. A Microsoft-associated title appeared in PlayStation’s July 2026 download ranking, and Xbox has said it is seeing strong GTA VI preorders. Whether cross-platform publishing has paid off in commercial terms remains unproven until reliable sales data is released.
