XenonRecomp translates Xbox 360 executable code into C++ that developers can recompile for another platform. It is a foundation for game-specific ports—not an emulator or a ready-to-play collection of Xbox 360 games. The project does not include the runtime a game needs to function, and additional title-specific work remains the developer’s responsibility.
What XenonRecomp does
The project describes itself as a tool that “converts Xbox 360 executables into C++ code, which can then be recompiled for any platform.” That describes a code-conversion step, not a finished port. The generated C++ still needs to be compiled and supported by software that supplies the game’s runtime behavior. XenonRecomp’s README says the project does not provide a runtime implementation and that the converted code will not function correctly without one.

The intended users are developers building game-specific recompilation projects. XenonAnalyse can detect jump tables and output TOML configuration; XenonRecomp uses configuration and an Xbox 360 PPC context header to generate C++ code. Game variations may require manual configuration or additional support.

Why the tool does not make every Xbox 360 game playable
Translating executable instructions is only one part of making a game run. A usable port also needs a runtime and title-specific implementation work. The project documentation identifies limitations that can affect this process:
#1 Best Overall
- Incomplete instruction coverage: The README says a substantial number of PPC instructions are implemented, but some cases are missing. Missing instructions can produce warnings or debug breaks in generated code.
- Game-specific jump-table patterns: XenonAnalyse’s jump-table detection is described as working for patterns in Sonic Unleashed. Other games may use variations that need changes; the README says there is no fully generic solution.
- Exceptions: The recompiler does not support them, according to the project documentation.
- Optimization options: The README advises getting a functioning recompilation first, before enabling optimization options.
These are caveats from the project maintainers, not independent compatibility test results. The available project information does not establish that a particular game works, or that any set of Xbox 360 games has been made playable across platforms.
When it was released—and what “released” means here
A March 2, 2025 Changelog Nightly listing reports that hedge-dev/XenonRecomp was open-sourced on that date. This is the repository’s open-source date, not the date Xbox 360 games became broadly playable on other platforms.

What players should take away
XenonRecomp is a developer tool that can help translate Xbox 360 game code into a form suitable for recompilation. Players should not treat it as a universal launcher, an emulator, or proof that Xbox 360 games are now available on every platform. Whether a specific title can be turned into a working port depends on its code, the runtime and other game-specific work—and the cited project documentation does not promise a playable result for any particular game.
