Yes—Discord Nitro subscribers can share a free two-week trial with eligible friends. The feature, called Share Nitro or Nitro friend passes, is currently advertised by Discord, but it is not necessarily a brand-new August 2026 update: Discord documented it on May 6, 2025.
The important catch is billing. Friends must add a payment method, and Discord charges the selected subscription when the two-week trial ends unless it is canceled first.

What Discord Nitro friend passes include
A shared pass provides a two-week trial of the full Discord Nitro plan—not Nitro Basic. During the trial, recipients can test Nitro perks such as custom and animated emoji across servers, custom stickers, HD streaming, uploads up to 500 MB, profile customization, two Server Boosts, longer messages, and other current Nitro benefits.
Discord’s current Nitro page lists three Nitro friend passes. Its support documentation says eligible members receive three trials initially, with additional trials potentially becoming available later. A pass must be claimed within 10 days of being sent. If it is not redeemed, it expires and returns to the sender.

Who can send a Nitro trial?
The sender must have an eligible full Nitro subscription billed monthly or annually. Discord excludes Nitro Basic and Nitro Classic members, as well as accounts using another trial, discount, or promotional offer. Not every account will necessarily show the same number of available passes.
Who can receive one?
Recipients are checked by Discord’s account-level eligibility rules. Someone may be excluded if they currently have Nitro, recently had Nitro, accepted another trial, or is affected by another promotional restriction. Discord does not publish every possible exclusion.
The practical test is the Select Friends list: if a friend does not appear there, Discord considers that account ineligible at that time. There is no legitimate way to bypass that restriction with an unofficial code.

How to send a Nitro friend pass
- Open Discord on desktop or in a web browser.
- Select Direct Messages in the upper-left.
- Open the Nitro tab. You can also go to User Settings → Nitro.
- Find the Share Nitro banner.
- Select Select Friends.
- Choose an eligible friend.
- Select Share Trial.
The offer should then appear as an embedded trial card in the Discord DM. This is different from buying a Nitro gift, which is a separate paid transaction for subscription time.
How a friend redeems the trial
- Open the genuine embedded trial card in Discord.
- Select Start Trial.
- Choose the subscription plan that will apply after the trial.
- Enter billing information.
- Complete the redemption process.
Discord says the payment method is not charged during the two-week trial. However, the chosen subscription begins billing when the trial ends unless it is canceled beforehand.
Will Discord charge you after the free trial?
Yes, unless you cancel. The offer is free for two weeks, not a permanent free Nitro subscription. Before accepting, check the plan, renewal date, and price shown on the checkout screen.

If you only want to test Nitro, set a reminder several days before the trial ends. You can also cancel after redeeming if Discord confirms that trial access remains active through its expiration date. Subscription-management screens and requirements can differ between desktop, Android, iOS, and other payment systems; check the subscription status after canceling.
How to tell whether a Nitro offer is genuine
A real Share Nitro offer is presented inside Discord as an embedded trial message from a friend. Discord’s documented process does not require an external download, QR code, executable file, or suspicious third-party website.

If the sender cannot find the banner, they may have Nitro Basic, be on an ineligible trial or discount, lack currently available passes, or be viewing an interface where the feature is not surfaced. Try the documented desktop or browser route through the Nitro tab or User Settings.

Share Nitro versus Nitro Basic and paid gifts
| Option | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Share Nitro | A free two-week trial for an eligible friend, followed by paid renewal unless canceled | Testing the full Nitro feature set |
| Nitro Basic | A cheaper paid tier with selected perks, such as custom emoji and stickers, Super Reactions, and 50 MB uploads | Users who do not need HD streaming, 500 MB uploads, or included Server Boosts |
| Paid Nitro gift | A purchased monthly or yearly Nitro subscription sent through Discord | Giving Nitro to someone without relying on trial eligibility |
Discord’s May 2026 guide lists U.S. Nitro Basic pricing at $2.99 monthly or $29.99 annually, but regional and platform pricing may differ. Current features and prices can change; verify the details shown in Discord before subscribing.
Bottom line for Discord users
Share Nitro is a legitimate Discord feature that lets eligible full Nitro subscribers give friends a two-week trial. It is best treated as a limited product trial, not permanently free Nitro: the recipient needs billing information and will be charged after two weeks unless the subscription is canceled. Accept it only after checking the renewal terms and confirming that the offer appears natively inside Discord.
