It adds three storybook-inspired biomes, a Royal Net and Snippet-collecting mechanic, and five villagers introduced across its completed story rollout. You need the base game on the same platform to play the expansion.
What is included in The Storybook Vale expansion?
The expansion takes place in a land shaped by myths and fairy tales. Its central story follows the conflict between Hades and Maleficent, which has damaged the Vale and scattered the Lorekeeper’s Tales. The content arrived in two parts: Part 1 launched in 2024, and the story’s finale, The Unwritten Realms, arrived on July 9, 2025. Both parts are released content.

Alongside the main story, the expansion adds friendship quests, trials, puzzles, story tapestries, new items and decorating options. Each biome also brings its own ingredients, critters, landmarks and landscaping opportunities, according to Gameloft’s launch announcement and patch notes.

What are the Storybook Vale biomes?

The themes and biome-specific additions are described by Gameloft and in the Nintendo Switch listing. The expansion’s exploration, quests and decorating are tied to these distinct areas rather than being a single new zone.

How do Snippets and the Royal Net work?
Snippets are paper-like creatures that represent pages scattered from the Lorekeeper’s stories. Catch them with the Royal Net, the expansion’s new Royal Tool, then use them in restoring the Vale’s stories. Finding and gathering Snippets connects exploration to the main plot: rebuilding the stories helps address the damage caused by Hades and Maleficent’s conflict.

Do I need Disney Dreamlight Valley to play Storybook Vale?
Yes. The Storybook Vale is downloadable content, not a standalone game. Nintendo identifies the Switch edition as DLC requiring Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Steam likewise lists the expansion as DLC requiring the base game. Buy the base game and expansion for the same platform and storefront; owning the base game alone does not grant access to the Vale.

Gameloft’s edition and purchase information distinguishes a standalone expansion from offers that bundle it with the base game, and from editions that include additional digital items or another expansion.
