AdHoc Studio creative director Dennis Lenart said the team never expected players to read Blonde Blazer as secretly malicious. In an interview with PCGamesN published November 27, 2025, he said the developers saw her as “pure-hearted” and were “heartbroken” when some players treated her as a villain.
Why did some Dispatch players see Blonde Blazer as a villain?
PCGamesN ties the reaction to a reveal in episode two: Blonde Blazer was dating Phenomaman. That complicated matters for players who had chosen to kiss her, and some corners of the fandom responded by casting her in a negative light. The account describes a reaction among some players, not a consensus across the Dispatch audience.
Lenart said the interpretation surprised the development team: “No one could have predicted that people would see the Blonde Blazer character and think that she did not have true intentions. She’s always been this pure-hearted character to us. So, as developers, we’re heartbroken.” PCGamesN identified Lenart as AdHoc Studio’s creative director and reported the comments as part of its interview.
What did the developers say about fan theories?
The interview also touched on theories about Shroud. Narrative designer Polly Raguimov joked: “It was very funny how many theories there were about who Shroud is when we literally say who Shroud is at the very beginning of the game.” She added: “And the twist is that there is no twist.” Her comments point to how readily players looked for hidden revelations, even when the game had already supplied an answer.

How did Dispatch’s episodic release shape discussion?
Lenart said the short gaps between episodes gave players a choice: wait until the whole story was available or follow along as new installments arrived. Raguimov said the time between installments also let tension build before a cliffhanger was resolved. Those are the developers’ views on Dispatch’s release cadence, not a claim that episodic releases necessarily produce more engagement for every game.
PCGamesN reported that Dispatch’s Steam record exceeded 220,000 concurrent players at the finale. That is a peak concurrent-player count, not a sales total or the number of people who played the game overall.
