Dispatch Episodes 1 & 2 Spoiler-Free Review: A Promising Start

Dispatch’s opening two episodes introduce a former superhero turned manager, a memorable ensemble and a promising dispatch loop, though the larger story is still unfolding.

Dispatch opens with a superhero stripped of his suit and reassigned to a desk. In its first two episodes, AdHoc Studio turns that reversal into a character-led workplace comedy with a tactical dispatch loop: you manage a squad of reformed villains and send the right people to emergencies. The setup, performances and visual style make a strong first impression, though the opening is a slow build and its larger story choices have only begun to take shape.

What is Dispatch?

Robert Robertson, formerly the armored hero Mecha Man, loses his mech suit and takes a job at the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN). Instead of being the hero in the field, he manages a roster of reformed former villains, learns what each can do and assigns them to emergencies. Branching conversations and relationships sit alongside tactical decisions and workplace humor.

That role reversal is the point: Dispatch is less about directly controlling a traditional superhero than about deciding who should respond, while getting to know the people on the other end of the line. The opening introduces Robert’s setback, the SDN and figures including Blonde Blazer and Chase without requiring the player to know more going in.

How do Episodes 1 and 2 play?

Episode 1 establishes the team and tone

Mike Straw’s October 21, 2025 review for Insider Gaming describes the first episode as a gradual introduction, rather than an immediate deep dive into every system. It establishes the premise and ensemble, giving the character dynamics room to develop. The review’s PC copy was provided by the publisher, a disclosure worth noting when weighing its impressions. Episode 2 makes dispatching clearer

The second episode gives a better look at the central loop: assess an emergency, then choose a hero—or combination of heroes—whose abilities fit the situation. Straw describes five attributes used to distinguish the roster: Combat, Charisma, Intelligence, Strength and Vigor. A shift ends with a report on dispatch success and team improvement. These are the reviewer’s observations about the opening episodes, not a claim that every later episode follows the same pattern.

The review also notes intermittent hacking minigames and quick-time events during cinematic sequences. Straw found the QTEs distracting; the review says they can be toggled off. That option may help players who prefer to watch the scenes without timed prompts.

What works best in the opening?

  • Visual presentation: Straw praises the look of the game and the way it supports its animated, cinematic storytelling.
  • Voice performances: The cast helps make the ensemble’s personalities distinct from the outset.
  • A tonal mix with room for feeling: Sarcasm and workplace comedy share space with sincere emotional beats, rather than reducing the characters to jokes.
  • A useful premise for player decisions: Choosing who handles an emergency gives the player a practical way to engage with the team and its abilities.

What are the early caveats?

The setup takes its time

Episode 1 is an introduction, and the dispatch system becomes clearer in episode 2. Players looking for a fast, fully developed strategy game from the opening minutes may find the ramp-up measured.

Some major choices are still being set up

By the end of episode 2, Straw felt that larger choices were being positioned for later rather than delivering much payoff already. The review also notes that some choices affect events immediately. That distinction matters: the early episodes offer moments of consequence, but do not yet establish how all of the bigger decisions will resolve.

Is Dispatch like The Wolf Among Us?

It shares the broad appeal of narrative adventures such as The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead and Batman: The Enemy Within: character-focused storytelling, dialogue choices and a cast that draws you through the plot. But Dispatch gives its premise a different shape. You manage responders and assess emergencies rather than simply following a conventional field-based adventure. If what you want is an ensemble-driven interactive story, the comparison is useful; if you expect the same kind of moment-to-moment play, it is not a one-to-one match.

Is Dispatch worth playing after two episodes?

For players who enjoy strong character introductions, polished presentation and a blend of comedy with earnest drama, these first two episodes make a persuasive case to continue. The dispatch loop starts to come into focus in episode 2, while episode 1 lays the groundwork. The main reservation is about timing: the opening is still building its larger arcs, so two episodes are not enough to judge how fully the story will pay off.

That qualification is especially important when looking at later reviews. PC Gamer’s November 13, 2025 review scores the full season 89/100, praising its tightly scripted interactive-TV presentation, animation and characters while identifying limited interactivity as a trade-off. That score is not an assessment of Episodes 1 and 2 alone. Read PC Gamer’s full-season review.

On PlayStation, the standard edition is the full game; the Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital art book and four digital comics, according to the official listing. AdHoc Studio announced physical Deluxe Editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with the game, a 16-page printed SDN’s Guide to Dispatching and a poster. The studio announced Q4 2026 delivery; that announcement is not confirmation that the editions have shipped or that a particular retailer has stock. See AdHoc Studio’s physical-edition announcement.

Content descriptions are platform-specific. Nintendo’s UK listing says some mature content from the original version has been modified for Nintendo platforms. The PlayStation listing includes descriptors for violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language, and drug and alcohol use. Check the relevant platform listing if these details affect your decision.
