Dispatch launched in October 2025, and its eight episodes arrived two at a time over roughly four weeks. In a September 2025 interview, AdHoc Studio explained why it chose that compact rollout, how the episode breaks fit one continuous story, and what it hoped the game would feel like in a player’s evening routine. The complete season is now available; physical editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 are planned for Q4 2026.
When did Dispatch come out?
AdHoc Studio released Dispatch in October 2025. At the time of Mike Straw’s September 17, 2025 interview for Insider Gaming, the game was scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 22. That date is now historical, not an upcoming release. AdHoc’s studio history lists an October 2025 release, and the Steam developer page says all episodes are out.
The interview featured AdHoc’s Dennis Lenart, Nick Herman, Pierre Shorette, Derek Stratton, and Natalie Herman, discussing the release plan, the episodic structure, and the game’s intended place in players’ routines.
Why did AdHoc choose two episodes a week?
AdHoc planned to release two episodes per week for essentially four weeks. Nick Herman said the team considered one episode per week, but an eight-week rollout seemed likely to make it harder to hold players’ attention. The studio also wanted each drop to give people enough material to discuss, without making players who preferred to binge wait too long.

- For those who love Dispatch!
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
That schedule was meant to serve both audiences: players who enjoy following a story and talking about it week by week, and players who would rather start once the season was complete. The episode breaks shaped the release and viewing rhythm; they were not separately sold story chapters.
Is Dispatch one story or separate episodes?
It is one continuous season-long story, not eight independent stories. Pierre Shorette, AdHoc’s CCO and Narrative Director, described it as “a story that builds across an entire season.” Nick Herman likewise called the game “one thing” and “a season.” The studio’s later Steam developer page confirms that all episodes are now out.
The episode structure was also intended to connect the narrative to the dispatch shifts. Producer Natalie Herman described the design challenge as making choices and consequences matter both within individual episodes and across the season, while ensuring that story events informed shift play and vice versa. The breaks, in other words, were a way to present one developing narrative alongside gameplay that responds to it.

What was AdHoc’s vision for the game?
Dispatch follows Robert Robertson, also known as Mecha Man, after he loses his mech suit and takes a job at a superhero dispatch center. There, he manages a team of rehabilitated former supervillains while navigating workplace relationships. In a later Unreal Engine interview, CTO and Creative Director Dennis Lenart described the mix as workplace comedy, with the feel of shows such as The Office, alongside the fantasy of a superhero team.
The dispatch system was meant to have enough strategic depth to feel like gameplay while staying approachable. AdHoc’s broader aim was to make the cinematic, choice-driven story and the work of managing shifts affect each other, rather than treating one as an interruption between segments of the other.
A game for winding down
In the September 2025 interview, Nick Herman called the intended place for Dispatch “wind down gaming.” He pictured a game someone might play after work and dinner, in the way they might sit down to watch television. That was the studio’s positioning hope before release, not evidence that all players use the game that way.

AdHoc also described the October timing as a chance to give players a lower-intensity option that might fit after a session of larger action games. The interview did not claim that Dispatch directly competed with Battlefield or Call of Duty.
How the presentation supports that mix
Art Director Derek Stratton said the visual approach relied on composition, lighting, matte-painted backgrounds, and graphic presentation, rather than technical complexity for its own sake. He hoped this relatively stripped-down style would age well; that remains his expectation, not a guarantee about how the visuals will hold up over time.
What AdHoc has said about the game’s production
AdHoc’s official history traces the project to 2019, when it began as an interactive live-action series. The studio says it shelved that version in 2020 when live production stopped, then revived the project as an animated video game in October 2022. AdHoc says it independently published Dispatch after finding the funds needed to finish it.
