Dispatch puts you behind the desk rather than in the usual superhero power fantasy. After Robert Robertson’s mech suit is destroyed, the former Mecha Man takes a job at a superhero dispatch center while trying to rebuild it. His assignment: manage the Z-Team, a crew of former villains and other unconventional heroes, and decide who responds to emergencies. The result is a superhero workplace comedy and redemption story whose management shifts are tied to its characters and plot.
What makes Dispatch different from a conventional superhero game?
Its central change is perspective. Robert is not simply sent out to fight; he coordinates a team of people who have to prove they can be trusted to do good. Their pasts, personalities and working relationships are part of the premise, so assigning a hero is also a decision about the people in the story.

AdHoc Studio describes the design goal as connecting narrative scenes with gameplay rather than letting assignments feel like a separate activity. Co-creative director Dennis Lenart said the studio wanted to solve the disconnect it had found between interactive story scenes and gameplay that could feel tacked on. That aim gives Dispatch its distinctive hook: the dispatch desk is both the game’s main mechanic and the setting for its workplace drama. [Xbox Wire, March 26, 2026]
How the story and dispatch shifts work
Choose who responds
The game alternates between cinematic story scenes and dispatch shifts. During a shift, you review emergencies and send available heroes whose abilities and strengths suit each incident. A good match may be unavailable because that hero is occupied elsewhere; choosing a less suitable person can carry risk. The roster’s limitations make the job more than a simple exercise in sending the strongest character to every call.

See assignments feed back into the drama
The studio says narrative choices can shape dispatch options, while mission performance feeds back into the narrative. The story and management loop are therefore meant to affect one another. PC Gamer describes most episodes as having two brief shifts, alongside hero stats, special abilities and RPG-lite upgrades; it also notes team-ups, hacking minigames and story complications that can change who is available. Those are review observations, not a guarantee that every episode follows an identical pattern. [PC Gamer, November 13, 2025]
Expect a scripted presentation with interactive stretches
Dialogue and action choices shape the story scenes, and some sequences use quick-time events. The balance is closer to an animated, highly scripted series with interactive decision-making and management than to a continuously hands-on action game. That is a strength if you enjoy character-focused storytelling, but a possible drawback if you want frequent combat or broad control over every scene.

How much do your choices matter?
Reviews disagree about the payoff. PC Gamer reports that some decisions can affect relationships and who remains on the roster. GameSpot, by contrast, argues that some choices have limited consequences and that the story can continue with default selections. Taken together, that suggests Dispatch offers meaningful decisions in parts of its character and team management, but it should not be approached as a promise of sweeping branching or radically different plot routes. [GameSpot, November 14, 2025]
That distinction matters when judging the game’s interactivity. A choice can add texture to a relationship or influence a shift without changing the overall direction of the season. PC Gamer praises the animation and cast while wishing some scenes offered more to do; GameSpot likewise praises the writing but questions how much agency some decisions provide. Those are reviewers’ judgments, but they point to the key question for prospective players: do you enjoy the characters and the act of managing the team even when the story’s larger shape stays constrained?

- Good fit: players who want an animated superhero story, workplace humor, imperfect characters and a management loop built around matching people to problems.
- Potential mismatch: players primarily looking for sustained action, extensive tactical depth or choices that send the plot down substantially different paths.
- Useful expectation: think of it as an interactive, character-led series punctuated by dispatch decisions and minigames, rather than a conventional hero-fighting game.
