No. PlayStation Store gift cards and game or subscription vouchers can still be used for PS3 purchases, but ordinary credit and debit cards and PayPal can no longer be used directly in the PS3 Store. Your voucher must match your PlayStation account’s region, and new purchases may be affected by phased Store closures starting in some markets in 2026.
Which PlayStation cards and vouchers work on PS3?
Sony confirms that PlayStation Store gift cards, product vouchers, and subscription vouchers can still be used for PS3. A gift card adds prepaid funds to a PlayStation wallet; a product or subscription voucher provides a code for specified content or a subscription. Gift cards are for digital purchases in the PlayStation Store, not physical products or merchandise. Sony’s PS3 and PS Vita Store notice describes the available voucher options.

The key distinction is between a PlayStation voucher code and a bank card used as a payment method. A voucher can still be redeemed; a credit or debit card or PayPal cannot be used directly from the PS3 Store.
How to pay for a PS3 Store purchase now
The PS3 Store purchase needs to be covered by funds already in your PlayStation wallet. Sony says you can add funds using a gift card or a supported payment method through a desktop browser, mobile device, PS4, or PS5; available payment methods vary by region. Check Sony’s current PS3 Store payment guidance for your country.

- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- Check the account you plan to use. Wallet funds and redeemed content cannot be transferred to another account.
- Choose a PlayStation Store gift card for the account’s region, or use a payment method Sony supports for that region through a browser, mobile device, PS4, or PS5.
- Redeem the voucher or add funds to that account’s wallet. If you are funding a child account, see the family-account rule below.
- Make the purchase in the PS3 Store while it remains available in your region. The wallet must have sufficient funds.
Check region and account before redeeming
A voucher code must be for the same country or region as the PlayStation account. Physical vouchers display a country or region indicator. Sony says the account’s region cannot be changed after account creation, so check compatibility before buying or redeeming a code. Sony’s voucher-code guidance explains region and redemption requirements.
- Codes are single-use.
- Wallet funds and redeemed content cannot be moved between accounts.
- Redeem a code on the account that will use the funds or content.
For a child account
A wallet top-up voucher for a child account must be redeemed on the family manager’s account. The family manager can then set a monthly spending limit for the child account. Check Sony’s voucher guidance before topping up.

PS3 Store closure timing depends on region
Sony’s July 1, 2026 announcement says changes begin in select markets during 2026, followed by global changes in 2027. Sony’s support notice says the PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Store will close starting in July 2027 in the reader’s region. These notices describe a phased regional schedule, not one date that applies everywhere. Check Sony’s current notice for your region before planning a new purchase: Sony’s July 1, 2026 announcement and Sony’s PS3 and PS Vita Store notice.
Sony says previously purchased content is expected to remain downloadable for the foreseeable future, subject to service and availability. That does not mean new purchases will remain possible after a regional Store closure.
