Yes—Fortnite cheats have existed. A 2017 court complaint by Epic described historical examples including aimbots and ESP, and Epic’s 2025 anti-cheat update describes its continuing efforts to detect and stop cheating. That does not establish that any particular cheat works today. Epic prohibits cheating, and its published penalties include long matchmaking bans and, for repeat offenses, a lifetime ban.
What does “cheating” mean in Fortnite?
Epic’s Fortnite Code of Conduct tells players not to cheat, exploit bugs or glitches, or promote or advertise known cheats and exploits. Epic’s Terms of Service prohibit using or encouraging cheats, as well as developing, marketing, distributing, or supporting them. The terms define cheats broadly: they include tools or actions that create an unfair advantage, such as bots, hacks, add-ons, malware, scripts, and mods not approved by Epic. They also prohibit having cheat software, tools, or hardware present on or connected to a device.
Epic says conduct violations are handled case by case, with consequences ranging from a warning to a permanent ban depending on severity and repeat offenses. The prohibition also covers promoting or advertising known cheats—not just using them in a match.
What kinds of Fortnite cheats have been documented?
In a complaint filed in federal court on November 2, 2017, Epic alleged that Fortnite cheats included aimbots, which automate target acquisition, and ESP, which exposed information normally hidden from players, such as opponents’ health, location, and weapons. The complaint in Epic Games, Inc. v. Foret is evidence of historical examples alleged in that case; it is not a current catalog or proof that any tool still functions.

What happens if you cheat in Fortnite?
Epic says that, since April 2025, a first cheating offense results in a one-year matchmaking ban and a second offense results in a lifetime ban. During the first ban, the player can still log in and use text or voice chat, but cannot matchmake into Epic- or creator-made experiences or spectate other players. Epic’s February 27, 2025 anti-cheat update also says tournament players may face a lifetime tournament ban and potential loss of previous tournament winnings.
Epic’s support guidance on cheating-offense changes and its anti-cheat update describe these published sanctions. The Code of Conduct also says consequences depend on the case, severity, and repeat offenses.

How does Epic say it detects cheating?
Epic describes several parts of its approach: preventing game-breaking exploits, making game code harder for cheat creators to analyze, using Easy Anti-Cheat’s kernel driver while Fortnite runs, and applying statistical analysis and machine-learning algorithms to identify suspicious activity. Epic says it bans accounts based on technical evidence rather than suspicion. Players who suspect cheating can report it in Fortnite.
Can you be sure a third-party program is safe?
No blanket assurance is available. Epic Support says it cannot determine or disclose whether using specific third-party software can lead to a Fortnite ban. Its guidance is that Fortnite and Epic do not officially support third-party software and that players use it at their own risk. Do not treat a utility as “safe” or “ban-proof” based on a seller’s claim or the fact that it is not advertised as a cheat. Epic’s terms prohibit cheat-related tools and hardware, and the support page does not provide a program-by-program clearance.

What is not established about Fortnite cheating?
The cited materials do not establish how prevalent cheating is across Fortnite, whether it is common or rare, or whether any particular cheat currently works or evades detection. The 2017 court complaint documents historical allegations, while Epic’s 2025 update explains its anti-cheat efforts; neither supplies a current prevalence figure or validates a specific tool.
If you suspect someone is cheating, report the player in Fortnite rather than downloading, using, or promoting cheat tools.
