No—not reliably. GameStop says an online preorder is not guaranteed to arrive on release day. It may ship on or after the official release date, and GameStop says delivery 1–3 days after release can happen. If you need the game on launch day, check whether store pickup is offered and wait for the pickup-ready email before going to the store.
What GameStop’s preorder policy means
GameStop distinguishes between when an order ships and when it reaches you. Its shipping FAQ says preorders ship when the item is released, while its order-status and delay guidance says an order may ship on or after the official release date. Shipping on launch day does not mean delivery on launch day.

GameStop states: “Pre-ordering online does NOT guarantee delivery on release day.” The same guidance says an order may arrive 1–3 days after release and that this can be normal. That is a possible delivery window described by GameStop, not an average, a measured on-time rate, or a promise that every order will arrive within it.
Why a preorder may arrive after launch
- The release date changes. If the publisher or manufacturer moves the date, GameStop says the order follows the updated release timeline.
- The manufacturer ships late. GameStop identifies a late manufacturer shipment as a possible cause of a delayed preorder.
- Fulfillment or carrier timing changes. Processing delays or a carrier slowdown can affect when the shipment reaches you.
How to check a delayed GameStop preorder
- Open your GameStop order status and find the preorder. Check for a revised release date or a delay notice.
- Look at whether the order is processing, shipped, or delayed. If it has shipped, use the available tracking information for the latest carrier updates.
- If several days have passed, the status has not updated, and there is no indicated release-date delay, contact GameStop support.
Does store pickup get you the game on release day?
Buy Online, Pick Up In Store may be offered for some items and locations, but availability varies. Do not travel to the store based only on the release date or an order confirmation: GameStop says to wait for the “Ready for Pick Up” email before going in. That notice confirms the order is ready for collection; pickup availability and timing are not universal guarantees for every preorder.

Can GameStop split a preorder into separate shipments?
Yes. GameStop says orders containing preorders with different release dates may ship separately and incur separate shipping charges. An item already released and a preorder in the same order may also be sent in separate shipments, so check each item’s status rather than assuming the entire order will arrive together.
