Why did Endermen originally have green eyes?
In Minecraft.net’s March 20, 2017 article “Meet the Enderman”, Jens Bergensten recalled that Endermen originally had green eyes, before Notch changed them to purple. Bergensten also connected that original design to the green color of the Ender item: “Originally it had green eyes which is why the item Ender is green.”

The Minecraft Wiki’s version-history notes report green eyes in an early Beta 1.8 pre-release and a later change to purple. That chronology is secondary-source information; the official article provides the attributable recollection of the design change. The Minecraft Monstrous Compendium describes Endermen as purple-eyed.
Why might an Enderman look green?
You are seeing an early build or historical image
Green eyes match the original design described by Bergensten. An image from early development or an early pre-release can therefore show a green-eyed Enderman without representing the current standard appearance.

You are seeing the Enderman spectator-perspective effect
The Minecraft Wiki’s historical notes describe an inverted-color view in which other Endermen can appear white with green eyes. This is a rendering effect, not a separate Enderman type or evidence of a green-eyed spawn variant.
The game content or image has been altered
Mods, resource packs, add-ons, fan art, and edited screenshots can change an Enderman’s appearance. Minecraft’s official site describes Marketplace texture packs and add-ons as customization options, but that does not establish any specific green-eye modification. A customized depiction should not be mistaken for the ordinary vanilla mob.

Does the green Ender item mean Endermen are still green-eyed?
No. Bergensten’s recollection links the item’s green color to the Enderman’s original design. It does not describe the mob’s current eye color: official Minecraft references depict Endermen as purple-eyed.

- Check the context: Is it from an early build or a historical image?
- Check the viewpoint: Could it be the spectator-perspective color effect?
- Check the content: Was a mod, resource pack, add-on, or image edit used?
Without that context, a green-eyed image alone cannot establish that a green-eyed Enderman naturally spawns in current vanilla Minecraft.
