To keep a specific game’s activity from appearing there, use Mark Private. Valve says this prevents activity such as achievement unlocks and “Played for the first time” from appearing in the feeds of people on your Steam Friends List.
What Steam’s Mark Private setting hides
Valve’s Steam Private Games FAQ says activity in a private game—including achievement unlocks and “Played for the first time”—will not appear in the Activity feed of people on your Steam Friends List. The game also no longer appears on your Steam Community profile’s games list or recently played games section, and friends do not see you as In Game for that title.
Those are specific Steam profile, status, and friends-feed effects. They do not establish that activity already seen is erased, that third-party services are covered, or that every possible inference about play is prevented.
How to make one Steam game private
- In your Steam Library, right-click the game, or open the game’s details page and select its gear icon.
- Choose Manage, then Mark Private.
These are the menu locations identified in Valve’s FAQ. If you want to check the result, view your profile as another account would see it.

How Mark Private differs from Hide
Hide is a Library display action; it is not the setting Valve documents for suppressing a game’s activity from friends. Mark Private is the per-game control for that purpose and also affects the profile and in-game status surfaces described above.

If you want broader control over what people can see about your games, Steam’s account-level Game Details privacy setting governs the overall game-details visibility described by Valve. Valve’s April 10, 2018 announcement says Game Details includes game ownership or wishlist visibility, achievements, playtime, whether others see you as in-game, and the title you are playing. This is broader than making one title private; the announcement is dated, so consult Steam’s current privacy settings for the available controls and navigation.
