Nintendo’s official materials do not establish compatibility with other VR games. To play the Classics collection, you need a Virtual Boy accessory and an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
What the Virtual Boy accessories support
Nintendo identifies the supported software as Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics, which launched on February 17, 2026 for Switch 2 and Switch. The accessory recreates the look and experience of playing Virtual Boy games; it is an add-on, not a standalone console. Nintendo does not say that it works with arbitrary VR software or other Switch 2 games. Nintendo’s product listing describes the accessory and its intended use.
Do not confuse these accessories with Nintendo’s Toy-Con VR Goggles. Nintendo explicitly states that the Toy-Con VR Goggles are not compatible with Switch 2. That statement concerns the Toy-Con goggles; it does not turn the Virtual Boy accessory into a general VR headset. See Nintendo’s VR and Virtual Boy accessories guidance.
Which accessory do you need?
Nintendo offers a standard Virtual Boy accessory and a cardboard alternative. Either is required to play the Virtual Boy Classics collection; neither is presented as a general-purpose VR option.

Nintendo cautions that perception of the 3D visuals can vary with eyesight, physical condition, the game and the environment. It also notes that extended play may cause motion sickness, fatigue or discomfort. Its guidance is to play in short bursts while getting used to the experience and to stop and rest if you feel unwell. See Nintendo’s safety and VR guidance.
