Yes. People in China play Genshin Impact: AppInChina’s September 2026 index of China’s top mobile games ranked it 16th and reported 7,953,800 monthly active users. That is a third-party estimate for mobile, not an official HoYoverse count of everyone playing in China across all platforms.
What the China player figure measures
AppInChina’s Mobile Game Index covers the top 20 mobile games in China across iOS and Android. Its September 2026 listing names Genshin Impact by its Chinese title, 原神, ranks it 16th, and reports 7,953,800 monthly active users. The index lists miHoYo as publisher.
Monthly active users (MAU) refers to users active during a month; it is not the same as downloads, registered accounts, daily active users, or people playing at the same moment. AppInChina does not explain the index’s MAU methodology on the page, so the number should be treated as the index’s reported figure, not an audited or publisher-verified count.
Does that number include every platform?
No. The cited index is specifically about mobile games on iOS and Android. The sources available do not establish a current official China-only total covering mobile, PC, and console, so the mobile figure cannot be extrapolated into an all-platform count.

Is there an official HoYoverse count?
No current official China-wide player total was identified in the sources reviewed. A secondary report from Icon Era says HoYoverse does not publish a concurrent-player figure; that is about simultaneous players and does not establish whether the company publishes every other kind of player metric.
Does “people in China” mean Chinese nationals?
Not necessarily. AppInChina’s index describes the China mobile-game market; it does not report the nationality of players. Its figure supports the conclusion that Genshin Impact has a substantial audience in that market, not a count of Chinese citizens who play.

Does server choice matter?
HoYoverse’s official top-up guidance tells players to “select the correct server and game account” when using its top-up center. That is relevant to completing a top-up, but the guidance alone does not establish detailed rules about accessing China servers or account eligibility.
