Public posts include offers to sell Pokémon GO accounts and people who say they have bought one. But those anecdotes do not show how common completed sales are or establish a typical price. More importantly, Pokémon GO’s current Player Guidelines prohibit buying or selling accounts on third-party platforms, and Niantic warns that purchased accounts come with serious access, history, and support risks.
What public posts show—and what they don’t
Reddit discussions include self-reports of account purchases, account-sale offers, and comments from people describing why they might want an account. Those examples show that the practice exists; they are not audited transactions or a representative survey. A separate seller post advertises a supposedly high-level account with particular progress and inventory, but a listing does not verify that those claims are accurate or that a sale occurred.
Commenters mention wanting to skip early progression, get access to rare Pokémon, or use an alternate account. These are reported motivations, not evidence that buying an account reliably delivers those benefits. The available posts do not establish a reliable market-size figure or a defensible typical price.
Why buying an account is risky
Niantic’s account-security guidance says not to purchase or trade accounts. It warns that a purchased account has no guarantees: a previous owner may have used unauthorized third-party services or may still be able to access it. Niantic also says it does not support issues resulting from purchased accounts. Read Niantic’s account-security guidance.

That uncertainty cuts against the apparent appeal of getting a head start or a particular collection. A seller’s description cannot establish the account’s history, continued control, or what support will be available if access or account status becomes a problem.
Pokémon GO prohibits third-party account sales
The current Pokémon GO Player Guidelines list buying, selling, or trading accounts on third-party platforms as prohibited conduct. They say violations may lead to a warning, degraded gameplay, suspension, or permanent account termination, sometimes without warning. See the Pokémon GO Player Guidelines.

Do not assume every login or loading problem means an account has been banned. Niantic’s help page distinguishes a suspension or termination message from temporary login and loading errors. Niantic’s account-security guidance explains account concerns; its account-security guidance is not a substitute for diagnosing a specific sign-in error.
Buying an account is not the same as trading Pokémon in-game
Pokémon GO has an official in-game Pokémon trading feature; buying or selling an entire account is a separate activity covered by the prohibition above. In a 2018 explanation of the feature, Niantic described friendship requirements and Stardust costs, including higher costs for certain Special Trades. It said those costs were intended in part to deter exploitation and a black market. That article explains the feature’s historical design intent, not necessarily every detail of today’s trading rules. Read Niantic’s 2018 trading explanation.

Practical takeaway
Some people do appear to offer, buy, or discuss buying Pokémon GO accounts, but the public examples do not reveal how often sales succeed or what buyers typically pay. The transaction is prohibited by current game guidelines, while Niantic warns of uncertain account access and history and says it does not support problems arising from purchased accounts. If you want another Pokémon or account progression, use the game’s permitted features rather than purchasing someone else’s login.
