Roblox creators can earn Robux from games and other creator activity, and eligible creators can request to convert qualifying Robux into real money through Roblox’s Developer Exchange (DevEx). Making a game—or simply receiving Robux—does not guarantee a cash payout: the Robux must qualify as earned, you must meet DevEx requirements, and Roblox reviews each request.
How creators can earn from Roblox games
Most game-based earnings begin as Robux, not cash. Roblox documents several ways to monetize an experience, and the best fit depends on what the game offers and how players use it.
In-game purchases
Developer products are items or benefits players can buy more than once; passes are generally one-time purchases. Roblox says creators generally receive 70% of Robux spent on sales in their own game, subject to product rules and exceptions. Roblox’s monetization documentation explains the different sales contexts, so that share should not be treated as a universal rate for every transaction.
Subscriptions, paid access, and private servers
Creators can offer recurring subscriptions with in-game benefits, charge for access to an experience, or offer paid private servers. The applicable rules vary by feature. Roblox’s monetization overview and paid-access documentation describe these options.

Creator Rewards and ads
Creator Rewards includes daily engagement and audience expansion reward categories. Roblox says Daily Engagement Rewards began on July 24, 2025, without additional enrollment; Audience Expansion has additional account verification, good-standing, and DevEx requirements. Roblox also offers immersive ad formats, including video, image, and portal ads, with earnings tied to engagement. See the Creator Rewards documentation and immersive ads documentation for current rules.
Creator Store and avatar commerce
Creators may sell models and plugins to other developers through the Creator Store. Roblox says its real-world pricing model returns 100% of net proceeds for those transactions. Creators may also earn from avatar-item sales, but the creator or seller share depends on the specific marketplace context; there is no single rate to apply to every item sale. Roblox’s Marketplace fees and commissions documentation sets out relevant distinctions.

When Robux can become real money
DevEx is Roblox’s route for converting qualifying Earned Robux into real-world currency. Roblox defines Earned Robux as Robux received by creating value through qualifying platform activities. Its examples include qualifying in-game sales and subscriptions, paid private servers and access, ads, Creator Store sales, avatar Marketplace sales, and Creator Rewards.

Meeting the listed requirements does not ensure approval. Roblox says, “Roblox is unable to guarantee eligibility as all DevEx requests are reviewed upon submission.” A dashboard estimate is not a guarantee that every Robux shown will qualify.
Current conversion rates and older balances
Roblox’s current DevEx documentation lists a standard rate of $0.0038 per qualifying Earned Robux, equivalent to $114 for 30,000 Earned Robux. Certain purchases in eligible games by U.S. players whose age is verified as 18 or older may qualify for the separate $0.0054 rate under program rules. Earned Robux from before September 5, 2025 may remain subject to the previous $0.0035 rate until those older balances are cashed out. These rates apply only under the relevant DevEx rules; they do not mean purchased Robux can be converted at those rates.

What Roblox’s creator earnings figures mean
Roblox reported that its top 1,000 creators averaged $1.3 million in earnings in 2025, using data as of December 31, 2025. Separately, Roblox reported a $1,550 median received by DevEx creators during the 12 months ended December 31, 2025, with more than 35,000 creators in the program. These are different measures of selected groups, not estimates of what a new game or typical beginner will earn. Roblox’s figures do not provide a defensible forecast for an individual creator.
Tax and payout details to check
Roblox says DevEx payments will be classified as royalties beginning November 1, 2026. Its tax documentation says tax forms will move to the Taxes page in Creator Hub, while Tipalti will continue processing payments. Roblox recommends submitting or updating tax information in advance and describes possible U.S. withholding consequences, including 24% backup withholding in certain cases when valid tax information is missing. The tax result depends on factors such as location, creator status, records, treaty eligibility, and payout date; Roblox’s guidance is not individual tax advice. Check the current DevEx instructions and tax information documentation before requesting payment.
