What you need for Camera Controller mode
For Just Dance 2026 Edition, set up a compatible smartphone with its camera and the free Just Dance Controller app. The phone tracks your movement against the on-screen coach’s choreography. Ubisoft describes this as an optional full-body scoring feature, and says the mode is single-player.
- Smartphone: Ubisoft’s October 14, 2025 feature article lists iOS 14.4 or higher, or Android 9 or higher. These are the published minimums in that article; check the app’s current store listing for updated compatibility.
- Separate Switch camera: Not needed for Camera Controller mode. Nintendo’s US Switch listing states that the smartphone and free app are required and that no additional accessories are required.
- Phone stand or holder: The listing does not require one. It may be convenient for positioning the phone, but it is not a stated requirement.

Camera Controller versus group play
Nintendo lists up to six-player local multiplayer for Just Dance 2026 Edition, while Ubisoft says Camera Controller mode is single-player. Those are separate claims: the six-player listing does not mean the phone-camera mode scores six players at once.

The sources cited here do not establish the exact controller setup for every current Switch edition or play mode. If you plan to play with a group using a particular controller configuration, check the requirements for your exact edition rather than inferring them from Camera Controller mode.
Does this apply to every Just Dance game on Switch?
No. “Just Dance” includes multiple editions, and the documented phone-camera requirements here are for Just Dance 2026 Edition. Do not assume the same feature or setup applies to an older release.

For example, Ubisoft’s historical article about Just Dance 2018 says that edition supported Joy-Con play for up to six players. That is evidence about the 2018 Switch edition, not confirmation of the current edition’s controller details: Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2018 announcement.

- You want full-body scoring without holding a controller: Use Camera Controller mode with a compatible phone and the free app. It is single-player.
- You want local group play: The 2026 Switch listing says local multiplayer supports up to six players. Confirm the controller requirements for your edition and mode.
- You are considering buying a camera: Do not buy a separate Switch camera for 2026’s Camera Controller mode; Nintendo says no additional accessories are needed beyond the smartphone and app.
