Owning Minecraft on Xbox does not by itself mean your Microsoft account owns the Windows PC edition. Before buying, check the Minecraft Launcher or Microsoft Store while signed in to the account you use for Minecraft: “Play” or “Install” means that account owns the PC edition; “Buy Now” means it does not. Check whether your account already owns Minecraft for PC
- Open the Minecraft Launcher on your Windows PC and sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Minecraft.
- Select Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. In the Launcher, “Play” or “Install” indicates ownership; “Buy Now” indicates that the signed-in account does not own that PC edition. (Minecraft Help)
- If it appears you need to buy the game, check that the Launcher and Microsoft Store are both signed in to the intended Microsoft account. On the Store product page, “You Own This” and an install option indicate ownership; a Buy option indicates it is not owned by that account. (Minecraft Help)
- If your Xbox access comes through Game Pass rather than a standalone purchase, verify that the subscription is active. Minecraft Help says an active subscription is required for Game Pass access. (Minecraft Help)
What to buy if you do not own the PC edition
The Windows PC product is Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC, which includes both editions. If your account check shows “Buy Now” and you want to play on PC, that is the PC product to look for. An Xbox purchase alone does not establish PC ownership. (Minecraft)

Which PC edition lets you play with Xbox friends?
Choose Bedrock Edition in the Launcher to play with friends using Minecraft Bedrock on Xbox. Minecraft lists Windows and Xbox among Bedrock’s cross-play platforms. Java and Bedrock players cannot play together, so owning the PC bundle does not make a Java session compatible with Xbox Bedrock multiplayer. (Minecraft; Minecraft)
