No. A PS Plus monthly game you claim at no extra cost is a membership benefit, not a permanent purchase. You can play it while your membership is active; once the paid period expires, it becomes unavailable until you resubscribe. This article describes Sony’s US terms and support guidance; details may vary by region, plan, platform, or account conditions.
What happens when you cancel PS Plus?
Turning off automatic renewal does not end your membership immediately. You keep its benefits, including access to claimed monthly games, through the end of the paid subscription period. Sony explains the cancellation timing and loss of subscription content in its PlayStation Plus cancellation guidance.

Before the paid period expires
While the membership remains active, you can continue playing eligible monthly games you have claimed. Canceling renewal simply prevents the next renewal; it does not remove access at once.
After the paid period expires
Games claimed at no cost as monthly games become unavailable while your membership is inactive. Sony’s US PS Plus Usage Terms say continued access to benefits requires an active subscription.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Can you play those games again if you resubscribe?
Generally, yes. Sony says that if your subscription expires and you return later, you regain access to content previously downloaded through PS Plus. This applies to eligible content still available under the service; it does not turn a monthly game into a purchase you own independently of membership. See Sony’s cancellation guidance.
How monthly games differ from catalog games and purchases
“PS Plus games” can mean different kinds of access. The key distinction is how you obtained the game:

| How you got the game | What happens when membership expires |
|---|---|
| Claimed at no extra cost as a monthly game | Unavailable while membership is inactive; access can return after resubscribing, subject to the title’s continued eligibility. |
| Accessed from the Game Catalog or Classics Catalog | Requires the corresponding membership tier and continued inclusion in that catalog. Some titles leave the service on announced dates. |
| Purchased separately, including at a PS Plus discount | The purchase remains yours; it is not the same as claiming a monthly game at no extra cost. |
Sony distinguishes monthly games from catalog access in its guide to accessing PlayStation Plus games and its PS Plus overview. Catalog availability is not permanent ownership: a title can leave the catalog even if your membership continues.

Separately purchased add-ons or consumables tied to a subscription game may not be usable during a membership lapse, or if the associated game leaves the service. Sony’s US usage terms describe these limitations. Access may return after renewing or buying the game separately, subject to the applicable terms.
