You can use a compatible smartphone camera with Ubisoft’s Just Dance Controller app for solo Camera Controller play, or use the controller options supported by your console. Just Dance+ is an optional streaming catalog, not a requirement for the base game.
Do you need a camera to play Just Dance?
No dedicated camera is required. Ubisoft’s Camera Controller mode uses a compatible smartphone camera to track your full-body movements, and Ubisoft says it needs no additional accessories. A phone stand is optional if it helps position your phone; it is not required.
Play with a phone camera
Install the Just Dance Controller app and use its Camera Controller option. Ubisoft specifies iOS 14.4 or later, or Android 9 or later, for the app with the 2026 edition. Camera Controller is solo-only. Ubisoft’s October 2025 patch notes say it is out of beta in Just Dance 2026 Edition; all 2025 and 2026 choreographies are compatible, while compatibility for other songs may vary. Ubisoft’s 2026 Edition announcement and updates.
Play with platform controllers
The phone camera is one option, not a universal requirement. Ubisoft also describes handheld motion-controller and camera-controller options through the app, alongside Switch controllers for Switch and Switch 2 owners. The available controller method depends on your console, so check the current platform store listing and the game’s controller information before buying.

Do you need Just Dance+ to play?
No. Buying Just Dance 2026 Edition gives you the base game; Just Dance+ is a separate streaming service that adds access to a growing song catalog and seasonal benefits. Ubisoft says each 2026 Edition includes a one-month Just Dance+ trial, so a paid subscription is not needed to start playing the base game. Ubisoft’s Just Dance+ page.
Trial requirements and renewal
Ubisoft’s trial instructions say claiming the included trial requires an active internet connection, a platform account linked to a Ubisoft account, and the console set as primary for the platform account holding the game and subscription. Ubisoft says the trial may renew automatically afterward; if you do not want that, cancel through the relevant platform store. See Ubisoft’s trial instructions for the applicable details.
