No. You can watch some Crunchyroll anime on PS5 with a free Crunchyroll membership. The free tier is limited to selected episodes, however; a paid Premium subscription is the route to the broader catalog and Premium features. You can also find a separate, curated free anime option through Live TV on PS5 in the United States.
What you can watch without paying
Crunchyroll’s PlayStation support page says that free members can watch “a selection of episodes from popular shows” on PlayStation. That means a subscription is not required for all Crunchyroll viewing, but it does not mean the entire service is free. Availability depends on the selection shown in the app, and the published support information does not promise that every series, every episode, or a complete season can be watched at no cost.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
You create or use a free Crunchyroll account, install the PS5 app, and then check the title you want to watch. If an episode is included for free, it will play under that account. If the episode is reserved for Premium, the app will present the paid-access option instead. This selection can change, so a title that is available to free members should not be treated as a permanent guarantee.

What Premium adds on PS5
Premium is intended for viewers who want access beyond the free sample. The PlayStation subscription help page describes Premium as the broader-access route and says that subscribing through PlayStation currently upgrades the account to the Mega Fan plan. It does not publish a universal price in the guidance, so check the current PlayStation Store or in-app listing for the amount shown in your country and currency.
| Option | Catalog access | How you pay | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Crunchyroll membership | Selected episodes from popular shows | No subscription payment | Selection is limited; the sources do not establish that a particular show or full season is free |
| Premium through PlayStation | Broader Premium access and features | PlayStation Wallet, through the PlayStation account | PlayStation currently identifies Mega Fan as the plan available through that route; price is not stated in the help article |
| Live TV on PS5 (United States) | Two curated Crunchyroll anime channels among the service’s free channels | Free, ad-supported Live TV service | It is a separate channel experience, not the full on-demand Crunchyroll app catalog |
The practical decision is therefore about catalog depth. If you only want to sample a show or watch whatever episodes are currently unlocked, start free. If the episode you want is marked Premium, or you need a much wider selection, the Mega Fan subscription is the relevant PlayStation option.
How to install Crunchyroll on PS5
Crunchyroll’s setup instructions provide two equivalent installation paths. The supported-device page lists PS5 software version 6.00.00.00 as the minimum version for the app. Update the console first if the app does not appear or will not install.

How a PlayStation Premium subscription is billed
A subscription started from the PlayStation app is charged through the PlayStation Wallet. Crunchyroll says you can identify that billing route by checking the PlayStation Wallet or the subscription information in your account settings. This matters because cancellation is handled by PlayStation rather than by the normal Crunchyroll web-billing controls.
Canceling a subscription purchased through PlayStation
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that purchased the subscription.
- Open the account’s Subscriptions settings.
- Select the Crunchyroll subscription and follow the cancellation instructions.
Canceling stops the next renewal according to the terms shown in the PlayStation account; it does not necessarily end access immediately. Read the date displayed on the subscription screen so you know when the current paid period finishes.

Avoiding overlapping subscriptions
If you already have a Premium subscription billed somewhere else, Crunchyroll’s PlayStation guidance says to cancel that existing plan and wait for its billing cycle to end before subscribing through PlayStation. Starting a second plan before the first period expires can create overlapping memberships and separate billing records. Use one billing route at a time, and verify which account is logged in before confirming payment.

What to know before starting a free trial
Crunchyroll’s standard trial help article says the usual free trial lasts seven days, requires an accepted payment method, and converts to a paid membership unless you cancel before the trial ends. The offer displayed during signup controls your actual terms: Crunchyroll notes that special promotions can use different conditions, and PlayStation pages have shown different trial lengths.
- Read the trial length shown on the final signup screen rather than assuming seven days applies to every promotion.
- Confirm which PlayStation account and payment method are attached before accepting.
- Record the renewal date immediately; the trial’s end date is the important cancellation deadline.
- If you do not want a paid renewal, cancel through the PlayStation account’s Subscriptions area when PlayStation is the billing provider.
The general terms are explained in How do free trials on Crunchyroll work?. Because promotions vary, the offer shown in your region is more authoritative than a generic trial length.

A separate free option: Live TV on PS5
In the United States, Sony Pictures Television announced Live TV on PS5 on August 31, 2026. The service launched with more than 100 free, ad-supported channels and a growing on-demand selection, including two Crunchyroll anime channels. PlayStation’s description says you connect through the Live TV on PS5 icon and sign in with a PlayStation account.
This can be useful if you want free anime programming without subscribing, but it is not the same product as the Crunchyroll app. The two channels are curated linear channels, so they do not establish that the complete Crunchyroll on-demand library is free or that you can choose any episode at any time. They may also show advertising and scheduled programming rather than the on-demand episode selection you were looking for.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Which option fits your viewing goal?
You want to sample anime or watch an unlocked episode
Use a free Crunchyroll membership first. Install the app, sign in, and check the specific episode. This avoids paying for access you may not need, while recognizing that the free selection is limited and can change.
You want a particular Premium-only episode
Compare the subscription offer shown in the PlayStation app. Through PlayStation, the help page currently identifies Mega Fan as the available Premium plan. Review the displayed price, renewal date, and cancellation route before confirming.
You want free scheduled anime channels in the United States
Check Live TV on PS5 for the two Crunchyroll channels. This is best understood as free, ad-supported programming rather than a replacement for on-demand Crunchyroll access.

You already pay for Crunchyroll elsewhere
Do not immediately start another PlayStation subscription. Cancel the existing plan, wait until its billing period ends, and then subscribe through PlayStation only if you specifically want PlayStation Wallet billing and the plan offered there.
Common problems and the right fix
- The app is missing: update the PS5 to at least software version 6.00.00.00, then check PlayStation Store > Media or Media Home > All Apps.
- An episode asks for Premium: that episode is not part of the free selection available to your account. A free membership does not unlock the entire catalog.
- You cannot find a cancellation button in Crunchyroll: check the PlayStation account’s Subscriptions settings when the charge is made through PlayStation Wallet.
- You see two billing records: verify whether an older Crunchyroll plan is still active before starting a PlayStation plan; wait for the first billing cycle to finish as Crunchyroll advises.
- The trial length looks different: use the terms displayed in the current offer. The standard help article says seven days, but promotions can differ.
- Live TV is unavailable: the documented launch is for the United States, with Canada mentioned as a future destination; availability elsewhere is not established by the announcement.
Bottom line
You do not need a paid Crunchyroll subscription to watch all Crunchyroll content on PS5, because free members can access selected episodes. You do need Premium for the broader subscription catalog, and PlayStation currently offers that route as Mega Fan with billing through PlayStation Wallet. In the United States, Live TV on PS5 adds two free, ad-supported Crunchyroll channels, but those channels are a separate curated service rather than the complete Crunchyroll app library.
