Identify exactly what “not appearing” means
Search results often combine several different PS5 symptoms. The right first step depends on what you can see on the console.

The official support material does not provide a current, country-by-country PS5 availability list. A help page describing PlayStation troubleshooting is not proof that the app is distributed in every region. If the store does not show Crunchyroll, record your account region and the exact store result before contacting support.

Run the low-risk checks first
1. Test a different online app
Open another internet-connected app on the PS5. This single comparison separates a Crunchyroll-specific problem from a console or network problem. If other apps work normally, focus on Crunchyroll, its account session, or regional/service availability. If several apps fail, go to the network checks below instead of repeatedly reinstalling one app.

2. Run the PS5 connection test
On the console, open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Note whether the test reports a failure and whether the problem affects all online apps. A successful test does not guarantee that a particular service is available, but a failed test makes a local network investigation the priority.
3. Close and reopen Crunchyroll
Leave the app, highlight it on the home screen, press the Options button, choose the command to close it, and launch it again. This clears a hung session without removing downloads or account data. If the app loads after reopening, no reinstall is needed.
4. Restart the PS5 normally
Use the power menu and choose Restart PS5. Do not select Rest Mode when you are trying to clear a stuck app process; Rest Mode is not the full shutdown used in Crunchyroll’s PlayStation procedure.
5. Check both app and system updates
Highlight Crunchyroll and use its Options menu to check for an app update. Then open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and install any available PS5 system update. PlayStation’s update guidance treats current application and system software as a prerequisite for launch and loading troubleshooting: check for updates on PS5 and PS4 and update PS5 system software.
Use Crunchyroll’s full power-off procedure
If a normal restart does not change the behavior, perform the deeper power cycle described in Crunchyroll’s PlayStation troubleshooting section. It is different from putting the console in Rest Mode.
- Hold the PlayStation button on the controller.
- Choose Turn Off PS5.
- Wait until the front power indicator has stopped blinking and the console is fully off.
- Unplug the PS5 power cable.
- Wait briefly, then reconnect the cable.
- Start the PS5 and try Crunchyroll again.
These steps come from Crunchyroll’s PlayStation guidance, which explicitly covers PS4 and PS5: Crunchyroll’s PlayStation troubleshooting instructions. Do not pull the cable while the indicator is still blinking; the required sequence is a controlled shutdown followed by unplugging.

Reinstall Crunchyroll when the app itself remains stuck
If the app still will not load after the full power cycle, delete it and install a fresh copy from the official PlayStation Store. - On the PS5 home screen, highlight Crunchyroll and press the Options button.
- Select Delete and confirm. Remove only the Crunchyroll app, not console data or the user profile.
- Open the PlayStation Store, search for Crunchyroll, and install the official listing.
- Launch the new installation and sign in.
Reinstallation can end the current app session, so have your Crunchyroll sign-in method available. If the sign-in screen offers QR-code authentication, Crunchyroll documents that flow here: QR code sign-in. If the store listing is unavailable after deletion, stop and verify the account region rather than repeatedly deleting and reinstalling.
Check the sign-in step separately
A reinstall may fix the package while leaving an account-access problem unchanged. If the app reaches its sign-in screen but fails after credentials are entered, note whether the same Crunchyroll account works on another supported device. A QR-code sign-in can help avoid typing a password with a controller, but it does not bypass regional availability or a service outage. Record the exact wording of any sign-in error and whether it appears before or after the code is accepted. That distinction helps Crunchyroll support investigate an account session instead of treating the issue as a damaged PS5 installation.
If several PS5 apps cannot connect
When another streaming or online app fails in the same way, treat the symptom as a network problem first. Run the PS5 connection test, then check whether other devices on the same internet connection can reach online services. Restarting the home router or modem can be a reasonable local-network check, but it will not repair a Crunchyroll service outage, an account issue, or a regional restriction.
Try wired networking as a diagnostic
If the PS5 normally uses Wi-Fi and you have an Ethernet cable available, connect the console directly to the router and repeat the connection test. A wired result that works while Wi-Fi fails points toward wireless interference, signal strength, or router configuration. It is only a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed Crunchyroll fix; if the service or account is the cause, changing the cable will not help.
Interpret the comparison
- Other apps work and wired/Wi-Fi changes do nothing: continue with the Crunchyroll update, power-cycle, reinstall, and region/service checks.
- Other apps fail on both Wi-Fi and wired connections: resolve the PS5’s internet connection or router path before troubleshooting the Crunchyroll installation again.
- Only one account or profile fails: record the account region and sign-in behavior; this points more toward account access than console hardware.
Check service and regional causes before deeper console maintenance
A functioning installation can still show an endless spinner when the service is temporarily unavailable or when content is restricted in the account’s region. Try opening Crunchyroll on another supported device using the same account. If it fails there too, the PS5 is unlikely to be the only cause and waiting for service recovery or contacting Crunchyroll is more appropriate than rebuilding the PS5 database.

If the app is missing from the PlayStation Store, search while signed into the affected account and confirm its country or region. Availability can differ by region, and the available support pages do not establish a universal PS5 store listing. Do not change account-region settings casually; document what the store displays and ask PlayStation or Crunchyroll support whether the listing is expected for that region.
Use a second device as an isolation test
Use the same Crunchyroll account on a phone, computer, or another supported device. If video and account pages work there while PS5 alone fails, return to the console sequence: update, full power-off, reinstall, and then Safe Mode only if necessary. If the second device shows the same loading behavior, avoid destructive PS5 maintenance. The common factor is more likely the Crunchyroll service, account, or regional access. A temporary service problem may require waiting; repeatedly reinstalling the PS5 app cannot restore an unavailable upstream service.
Use Safe Mode only after restart, updates, and reinstall
PlayStation’s application troubleshooting flow places Safe Mode cache and database options after connection testing, restarting, updating, and reinstalling. If Crunchyroll still fails—or if you are also seeing broader app-update or system-library problems—follow Sony’s Safe Mode instructions and select the maintenance option that matches the symptom. When Clear Cache is reasonable
Choose the cache-maintenance option when the issue resembles stale temporary system data or an update that will not complete. It is a system-maintenance step, not a replacement for reinstalling a corrupted Crunchyroll package.
When Rebuild Database is reasonable
Consider the database option when the PS5 has persistent library, app-update, or system-content irregularities beyond Crunchyroll. It is disproportionate for a single loading screen that has not yet gone through the basic checks, so do not use it as the first response.
Prepare before entering Safe Mode
Write down the exact symptom and the steps already completed before starting. Safe Mode presents several options with different effects, so do not choose by guessing or select a reset simply because it appears near the maintenance choices. Read each description on the PS5 screen and confirm that it says Clear Cache or Rebuild Database before proceeding. If the console has unrelated system problems, back up important data through your normal PlayStation process before any higher-impact recovery action.

Do not confuse maintenance with a reset
Safe Mode also exposes destructive choices. Do not select Reset PS5 or Reinstall System Software merely because Crunchyroll will not load. Sony states that reinstalling PS5 system software deletes all console data: Sony’s PS5 system-software instructions. Those options are for severe system recovery, not routine streaming-app troubleshooting.

Restoring licenses is primarily intended for PlayStation Store content that appears locked, missing, or inaccessible. It is not established as a fix for a Crunchyroll loading screen. Use Sony’s license procedure only when your symptom actually involves purchased PlayStation content, not as another generic step for a streaming app: restore licenses on PlayStation consoles.
Common mistakes that waste time
- Deleting before checking the store: If the listing is unavailable in the account’s region, removing the installed copy can leave you unable to download it again. Confirm the store result first when the app is already absent.
- Using Rest Mode as a power cycle: Rest Mode is not the controlled shutdown and unplug sequence described by Crunchyroll. Turn the PS5 completely off and wait for the indicator to stop blinking.
- Assuming a successful connection test proves Crunchyroll is healthy: The test checks the console’s internet path, not every service, account, or regional entitlement.
- Changing account regions casually: Region settings affect store availability. Record the current region and ask support rather than making an account change solely to obtain one app.
- Jumping to a reset: Reset PS5 and Reinstall System Software are not ordinary app fixes, and the latter deletes console data.
- Repeating the same reinstall during an outage: If Crunchyroll fails on another device or other users are affected, wait or contact support instead of cycling through the same installation.
What to record before contacting support
If the app still does not appear or load after the proportionate steps, collect information before opening a support case. This prevents the same checks from being repeated and helps separate a network, app, account, region, or console fault.
- The exact symptom: absent store listing, absent library tile, error message, blank screen, or endless loading indicator.
- Whether another internet-connected PS5 app works.
- The result of Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Your PlayStation account region and the region in which you are physically using the console.
- The Crunchyroll app version and PS5 system-software version, if shown in the console menus.
- Whether Crunchyroll works on another supported device with the same account.
- Which actions you completed: normal restart, full unplugged power cycle, update, reinstall, and any Safe Mode option.
- A photo or transcription of the exact error code, including capitalization and punctuation.
Contact Crunchyroll when the app fails only for its service, account, or content after other PS5 apps work. Contact PlayStation when the store listing, installation process, system software, or multiple online apps are affected. If support identifies a temporary outage, waiting may be the only effective action; reinstalling the app repeatedly cannot restore a service that is unavailable upstream.

Does Rest Mode fix a frozen Crunchyroll app?
Rest Mode is not the full shutdown recommended in Crunchyroll’s PlayStation troubleshooting. Turn the PS5 off, wait until the power indicator stops blinking, unplug briefly, reconnect, and start the console again.
Should I use an Ethernet cable?
Only as an optional diagnostic when Wi-Fi instability is suspected. Compare the PS5 connection test over wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi. A cable cannot fix a Crunchyroll service outage, account problem, or regional restriction.
