The two ways to buy the Vienna content
Your correct purchase depends entirely on whether City Transport Simulator 2026 is already in your game library. The official announcement describes the expansion as content that “expands your existing game,” while the Vienna Edition combines both products.

What the Vienna Expansion adds
The expansion is not merely a cosmetic Vienna-themed pack. It introduces a new Vienna map, three real-world public-transport routes, vehicles associated with those routes and additional city content.
Three recreated routes
- Tram line 37
- Tram line 38
- Bus line 35A
Lines 37 and 38 are tram routes, while 35A is a bus route. The three-route structure gives the expansion both rail and road operations instead of limiting it to one vehicle type.
Vienna vehicles and scenery
The expansion includes Vienna-themed vehicles and recreated city scenery. ViewApp’s September 3, 2026 announcement says that more than 1,000 buildings were recreated for the expansion. That figure describes the publisher’s production claim; it is not an independent performance test or a guarantee about frame rate on a particular system.
The practical result is that the Vienna content is designed to be played through the base simulator rather than launched as a separate title. Your purchase choice therefore determines whether you own the software needed to load the map.
What “you need the base game” means
The Vienna Expansion is an add-on. An add-on supplies extra maps, routes, vehicles or missions to a game that is already installed or owned. It does not provide the complete underlying simulator by itself. In this case, the existing game is City Transport Simulator 2026.

When you buy only the expansion, the store is treating your purchase as additional content for the base game. You should therefore expect the expansion to appear alongside the simulator in your library, not as an independent game with a separate starting point. The official wording is explicit that the Vienna map, routes and associated content expand an existing game.
The Vienna Edition solves the ownership issue by packaging the base game and expansion together. It is the straightforward choice for a new player who wants to start with Vienna without purchasing the two items separately.
If you already own City Transport Simulator 2026
Use the standalone Vienna Expansion route. Before paying, confirm that the base game is present in the same store account and on the platform where you intend to play. Ownership on a different account does not normally help the account making the purchase, so check the account identity shown by your storefront.
- Open the official store listing for the Vienna Expansion.
- Check that the product is identified as additional content for City Transport Simulator 2026.
- Verify that the base game appears in your library on the same account.
- Purchase and install the expansion through that storefront.
- Start City Transport Simulator 2026 and look for the Vienna map, routes 37, 38 and 35A, and the associated vehicles.
The exact download and launch labels can differ between storefronts. The important check is that both the base game and the expansion are attached to the same supported account and platform.
If you do not own the base game
Choose the Vienna Edition rather than the standalone expansion. The Vienna Edition combines the complete base game and the Vienna Expansion in one package, so it is intended for someone starting without the simulator.

- Find the Vienna Edition listing rather than the listing marked only “Vienna Expansion.”
- Read the package contents and confirm that both the base game and Vienna content are included.
- Buy the bundle through the storefront where you plan to play.
- Install the base game and the included expansion as directed by that storefront.
- Launch the simulator and select the Vienna content once installation is complete.
If you accidentally purchase the expansion first, do not assume it includes the simulator. Check the storefront’s ownership and refund rules before buying the base game separately; those policies vary and are not established by the publisher information available here.

How to avoid buying the wrong listing
The product names are similar enough to cause confusion. “Vienna Expansion” refers to the add-on. “Vienna Edition” refers to the package containing both the base game and the add-on.
- Already own the simulator: select Vienna Expansion.
- Starting from zero: select Vienna Edition.
- Unsure whether you own the simulator: search your library for the exact base-game title before purchasing.
- Seeing only expansion content in a listing: treat it as DLC unless the package explicitly says the base game is included.
Store pages can change their presentation, prices and availability. Use the package-contents panel and your account library as the final checks, rather than relying only on a banner image or a short promotional description.
Platforms and input devices
The official publisher information lists mouse and keyboard and an Xbox controller as input options. A controller is optional; it is not a requirement for the Vienna Expansion or the Vienna Edition. You can use mouse and keyboard if that is your preferred way to operate the simulator.
An Xbox storefront listing identifies ViewApp as both developer and publisher and describes the Vienna Edition bundle. That listing confirms the bundle’s product identity, but it does not make an Xbox controller mandatory. If you play on a platform that supports mouse and keyboard, those are also listed input options in the publisher’s product information.

Input support is separate from ownership. Having a compatible controller will not substitute for owning the base game, and owning the base game will not require you to purchase a controller.

Release date and availability caveats
The official release date for the Vienna Expansion and the Vienna Edition was October 13, 2026. Storefront packaging, regional availability and prices can change after release, so confirm the current listing for your region and platform before checkout.
The announcement and product listings establish the ownership relationship and the content included. They do not establish a universal price, a permanent discount, a particular regional tax, or a guaranteed future bundle structure. Those details belong to the storefront serving your account.

Once the required base game and Vienna content are installed, the expansion should be accessed through City Transport Simulator 2026. The content to look for is the Vienna map, the two tram routes, the 35A bus route, Vienna-themed vehicles and the recreated urban environment.
If the Vienna map does not appear, first distinguish an ownership problem from an installation problem. An account that owns only the expansion still lacks the required base game. An account that owns the Vienna Edition should own both components, but the storefront may still need to finish downloading or registering the add-on.
Ownership check
- Confirm that your library contains City Transport Simulator 2026 or the Vienna Edition.
- Confirm that the Vienna Expansion is listed as owned or included.
- Make sure you are signed in to the account that made the purchase.
Installation check
- Allow the base game and expansion downloads to finish.
- Restart the game after the storefront reports installation completed.
- Look for Vienna-specific content inside the base game rather than searching for a separate “Vienna” game.

Is the Vienna Edition better value?
There is no single answer without a current regional price. The correct choice is determined first by ownership: the Vienna Edition is the complete starting package, while the Vienna Expansion is the add-on for existing owners.
If you already own the simulator, buying the expansion avoids purchasing a second copy of the base game. Those statements are product information, not independent evaluation. They do not provide a measured frame-rate result, a player survey, a hardware performance table or a guarantee that every system will run the simulator identically. Choose the correct package first; investigate platform-specific technical requirements separately if your hardware or operating system is a concern.
Bottom line for each type of player
Existing owners need the Vienna Expansion. New players need the Vienna Edition. The expansion adds Vienna to the existing simulator; it is not a replacement for City Transport Simulator 2026. A controller is optional, and the Vienna content is accessed through the base game after installation.
