A monetized YouTube livestream can earn eligible Watch Page ad revenue while it is live, and its archived replay can also earn ad revenue when viewers watch it later. The answer for your channel is the stream’s actual estimated ad revenue in YouTube Analytics, compared over clearly defined live and replay periods—not its view count or RPM alone.
How ads can earn during the live broadcast
When monetization is enabled for a live stream, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on. Mid-roll ads can be inserted automatically or manually. Automatic mid-roll frequency can be set to low, medium, or high; YouTube recommends automatic mode, while scheduled or manual choices may have lower earnings potential. These settings create opportunities for ads, not a promise that an ad will be shown to each viewer.
YouTube may limit interruptions for members, pause mid-rolls for viewers sending certain paid messages, or snooze them at highly engaging moments. Its guidance is explicit: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” The system decides whether an available slot gets an ad based on factors that include viewer experience, creator earnings, and advertiser values. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance explains the formats and controls.
How the replay can earn after the stream ends
An archived livestream becomes a video on the channel, and eligible long-form or live-stream videos watched on the Watch Page can earn ads and YouTube Premium revenue under the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube says creators can see ad-revenue breakdowns for live streams and live replays in Analytics. Replay earnings therefore depend on whether the archive is available, how many people watch it, and whether ads are actually served—not simply on the fact that the broadcast happened.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Archiving is not guaranteed for every long broadcast: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured. See YouTube’s archive guidance. Creators seeking Watch Page ad and Premium revenue must accept the relevant module, and content remains subject to YouTube’s review and advertiser-friendly requirements. Turning on monetization does not guarantee that ads will run. Details are in YouTube’s monetization options.
How to compare live and replay earnings fairly
- Open the stream’s Analytics breakdown. Use YouTube Analytics to locate ad revenue for the live stream and live replay. YouTube documents this live/replay revenue breakdown in its live monetization help.
- Set distinct measurement windows. Compare the live broadcast with a stated replay window, such as the first seven days after it ends. Seven days is a practical example, not a YouTube rule. Be consistent when comparing different streams.
- Use ad revenue, not total estimated revenue. Estimated revenue may include memberships, Premium, and paid chat features. Estimated ad revenue is the measure for an ad-only comparison. Do not mix Super Chat, Super Stickers, memberships, or Premium into the result.
- Include delivery and audience measures. Alongside revenue, inspect views, estimated monetized playbacks, and ad impressions. A view is not necessarily an ad-supported playback: ad settings, inventory, geography, a viewer’s recent ad exposure, Premium status, and other factors can mean no ad is served.
- Label any efficiency calculation. Total ad revenue answers how much was earned in each period. Revenue per hour or per 1,000 views can help compare efficiency, but name the denominator and period. YouTube’s RPM is revenue after revenue share per 1,000 views and can include revenue beyond ads; CPM is advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube’s revenue share. Neither is interchangeable with ad-only revenue. Consult YouTube’s ad revenue analytics definitions.
- Repeat the comparison within your channel. Prefer several streams over a single example. Topic, stream duration, audience geography, season, ad settings, and replay reach can all differ, so treat them as factors to examine in your own results rather than as a platform-wide rule.
What YouTube’s published live-ad statistic means
YouTube reports that creators who chose automatic live mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. The comparison was between channels with automatic live mid-roll ads enabled and channels without them, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. It is a dated average about enabling automatic mid-rolls—not evidence that live viewing earns more than replay viewing, and not a forecast for an individual channel. The statistic appears on YouTube’s live monetization page.

Revenue share and what it does not tell you
YouTube states there are no guarantees under the Partner Agreement about how much, or whether, a creator will be paid. For partners who accept the Watch Page Monetization Module, YouTube documents a 55% share of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos on the content Watch Page. That share applies to qualifying Watch Page ad revenue; it does not make live and replay earnings equal. See YouTube’s partner earnings overview.
