Yes, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has microtransactions: Ubisoft lists Helix Credits as a purchasable in-game currency. But the available evidence does not show that fans “don’t care” about them—or that they do. Ubisoft’s overall player scores and playtime measure the game’s reception and engagement, not attitudes toward its store.
What can you buy in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Ubisoft lists three in-game currencies for Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Mon, Keys, and Helix Credits. It says Helix Credits can be purchased through the in-game Store or the Ubisoft Store.
The official US store listing describes a 4,200-credit pack that includes 700 bonus credits. Ubisoft says credits can be used to unlock extra items, in-game currency, resources, and more. Store offers can change, so the listing is not a guarantee of current availability or price.
What kinds of items are in the store?
A Windows Central review described examples including gear for Naoe and Yasuke, cosmetics for allies and the hideout, crafting resources, and a map that highlights treasures and secrets. These are examples reported by the reviewer, not a complete or current catalogue.

The available sources do not establish whether every item can be earned through play, whether particular gear changes progression or balance, or whether all store items are purely cosmetic. It is more accurate to assess an item by its effect and acquisition options than to label the entire store cosmetic, pay-to-win, or unnecessary.
Are Helix Credits required, and do microtransactions affect the single-player game?
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a single-player action RPG. The sources confirm that Helix Credits are purchasable, but they do not establish that buying them is required to play or complete the game, nor do they verify item-by-item earnability or the effect of each purchase on progression.

Windows Central’s reviewer said they found the game balanced and did not feel tempted to use the store. That is one reviewer’s experience, not proof that purchases have no effect for every player or that the wider player base is indifferent.
Do fans actually not care about the microtransactions?
That claim is not demonstrated by the available figures. Ubisoft reported a 91/100 average player score across the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam, as well as 160 million hours played. Those are company-reported measures of overall reception and engagement; neither isolates players’ opinions about microtransactions.

Without a representative measure of attitudes toward the store, the fair conclusion is narrower: the game has a store with purchasable credits, but the evidence cited here cannot establish whether fans care about that monetization. Overall ratings, playtime, or an individual review cannot stand in for a store-specific survey.

In a November 2025 GamesRadar report, associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois defended microtransactions as a way to support post-launch work. He said: “Microtransactions, for all the flak it gets, it allows us to do the Isu stuff, the quest stuff, the parkour updates, all of it.”
