To play Star Citizen, your RSI account needs a Star Citizen Game Package. If you want both, check that the current offer or your account explicitly includes both entitlements before you pay.
What does each purchase include?
RSI distinguishes the standalone Squadron 42 pledge from a Star Citizen Game Package. RSI says Game Packages include a digital download of Star Citizen, a ship, and other items listed with that package; the standalone Squadron 42 pledge is the exception to packages that include Star Citizen. The exact extras can vary by offer, so check the product description rather than assuming packages are identical. RSI Pledges FAQ · RSI Get Started: Checklist

| Purchase or entitlement | What it provides |
|---|---|
| Squadron 42 standalone pledge | Squadron 42; it does not provide a Star Citizen Game Package under RSI’s current guidance. |
| Star Citizen Game Package | Star Citizen access, a ship, and the additional items stated in that specific listing. |
| Offer explicitly listing both | Both entitlements named in that offer. Confirm the listing before purchase. |
How to confirm you have Star Citizen access
For an existing account, sign in to RSI and open My Hangar, then use the Game Packages filter to review what you own. RSI says a Game Package is required to access Star Citizen’s live environment. If you are shopping, read the current listing and make sure it names Star Citizen or a Game Package; a Squadron 42 pledge alone is not enough. RSI Get Started: Checklist

Can you add Squadron 42 when buying a Star Citizen package?
RSI says a discounted Squadron 42 add-on may appear during checkout for qualifying packages. If it is offered and you want it, add it before completing the order. Can you download Squadron 42 now?
No. RSI’s support article, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and unavailable for download. It says access will follow development, testing, and release; the article gives no release date. RSI says accounts with a pledge containing Squadron 42 will then be able to download it. RSI: Where can I download Squadron 42?
Why do some older guides say one package included both?
RSI’s February 9, 2016 announcement explains the change: packages sold before February 14, 2016 included persistent-universe access, and existing backers’ packages were not affected. New packages sold after the split let buyers choose the single-player campaign or persistent universe separately, with the option to add the other module. That historical exception does not mean a current standalone Squadron 42 pledge includes Star Citizen. The announcement’s old prices were expressly not final and subject to change, so they are not reliable current pricing. Check the live RSI store for current offers and local pricing. Check the terms that apply to your order
RSI describes purchases as pledges toward development; the selected pledge determines whether it provides Star Citizen alpha access, in-game items, Squadron 42, or some combination. Its terms describe a 30-day withdrawal period for qualifying pledge items after access is received, subject to conditions and exceptions. Read the terms and order details that apply to your specific transaction rather than treating that period as a general refund guarantee. RSI Terms of Service
