Yes. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has two endings. The game’s decisive choice comes immediately before the final battle: side with Maelle or Verso. Earlier dialogue choices do not determine which ending you get. Push Square’s ending guide says you can reload a save made before that choice to see the other conclusion.

When do you choose an ending?
The choice happens immediately before the final battle. At that point, you decide whether to side with Maelle or Verso, and that decision determines the ending. Earlier conversation choices do not affect the outcome, according to Push Square’s guide.
If you want to see both conclusions, make a save before choosing. The guide says you can reload that save after finishing one route and select the other character.

What makes the endings different?
The choice concerns the fate of the world within the painting, with each finale carrying different emotional and philosophical implications. Lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen told Game File that the team planned two endings from the beginning and intended them to be understood together as a duality. GamesRadar+ also reports her describing the pair as meant to be understood together.
That framing makes the choice more than a simple “good” versus “bad” route. The endings contrast in what they mean and cost; the sources do not establish one as a universally better outcome.

Is there a right or canon ending?
No single ending is canon. Svedberg-Yen told Game File that the lack of a canonical ending was intentional and said there is no “right ending”; the two should be considered together. That is the lead writer’s account of the creative intent, rather than a claim that every player will interpret the outcomes in the same way.

There is no representative player-preference figure in the cited coverage. Game File reports that an Instagram poll by Svedberg-Yen had about 1,000 respondents in 2026: 54% chose Verso, 26% chose Maelle, and 20% chose the joke option “secret Clea ending.” This was an informal social-media poll, not a scientific or representative measure of the player base. In the same interview, lead programmer Tom Guillermin said the studio had no way to know which ending players preferred.
