No. Crimson Desert does not have a character creator. The story is built around preset protagonists, and Pearl Abyss names three playable characters: Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka. The game offers some appearance and equipment customization, but none of it lets you design a new protagonist from scratch.
Why there is no character creator
Pearl Abyss’s official game page presents Crimson Desert as an open-world action-adventure centered on Kliff’s effort to reunite the Greymanes and rebuild the faction. The narrative is written around him and the other named protagonists, so the game never asks you to invent a hero at the start. Customization exists, but it changes how an established character looks and what they wear. It does not replace the cast.

The three playable characters
Pearl Abyss’s official June 2, 2026 developer update refers to “all three playable characters” while announcing planned improvements for Damiane and Oongka. The update says those features were still in development and that details could change at release.
Kliff
Kliff is the central protagonist. The official game page builds the story around his mission to reunite the Greymanes.

Damiane
Damiane is one of the three playable characters named in the June 2026 developer update. Pearl Abyss has since expanded what she can do in the game, as described in the patch notes covered below.
Oongka
Oongka is the third named playable character. Like Damiane, he received gameplay access changes in the July 2026 patch.

What customization is available
Customization applies to the existing characters. Two kinds are documented:
- Appearance: The Game8 guide, a secondary source with no reliable publication date in the material reviewed, reports options for hairstyles, tattoos, and outfit colors. Treat these as guide-reported details rather than an official Pearl Abyss list. See Game8’s “Is There Character Creation?” guide.
- Equipment: Pearl Abyss’s version 1.13.00 patch notes, dated July 3, 2026, say the patch “expands dyeable equipment options.”
Neither category lets you pick a new name, backstory, or class for a protagonist.

Version 1.13.00 is the most specific official update on the secondary characters. Pearl Abyss wrote:
“This patch allows Oongka and Damiane to enter the Abyss, adds new outfits and expands dyeable equipment options, and includes various bug fixes and stability improvements.”

That note is dated evidence from July 2026. It shows what changed in that patch, not that the game has stayed the same since. Check the Pearl Abyss patch notes for newer versions before relying on it as the current state of play.
Physical editions and character content
Pearl Abyss announced Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 24, 2025. The Collector’s Edition includes a Kliff and Golden Star diorama and three character photo cards. Availability, stock, and region vary by retailer, so confirm those before buying. Answering the two common versions of the question
Readers ask whether they can create their own character, and whether the game has any character creation at all. The answer to both is the same: the game uses preset protagonists, and its customization changes their look and gear. If you are looking for a fully custom avatar, the current version does not offer one.
When you describe the game to others, use the official names and roles, and describe customization as appearance and equipment options rather than as a character creator.
Pearl Abyss’s June 2026 update also said the goal of the planned changes was for “all three playable characters can get a share of the spotlight.” That is the clearest official statement of how the studio sees the cast.
