No—DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH does not appear to use Denuvo Anti-Tamper on PC as of August 16, 2026. However, that does not make the game completely DRM-free: the Steam edition still uses Steam’s ownership and authentication systems, while the Epic Games Store edition may depend on Epic’s launcher and account services.
The PC version launched on March 19, 2026, on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

What DRM does Death Stranding 2 use?
The current PC release has no publicly identified Denuvo Anti-Tamper protection. The Steam version does, however, use Steam’s own platform DRM and ownership verification. That is a different system from Denuvo.
- Denuvo Anti-Tamper: Third-party protection integrated into a game’s executable.
- Steam DRM: Valve’s storefront and account-based ownership verification.
- Epic protections: The Epic edition may rely on Epic’s launcher, account, and ownership systems.
In practical terms, buyers should expect a storefront-linked PC game—not a confirmed, fully independent DRM-free executable.

How do we know Denuvo is absent?
The conclusion is based on several indicators rather than an explicit anti-tamper statement from Kojima Productions or PlayStation:
- PC Gamer reported that the game does not use Denuvo and instead relies on Steam’s built-in DRM.
- GamesRadar described the release as using Steam DRM rather than a specialized system such as Denuvo.
- SteamDB’s metadata does not identify Denuvo among the game’s detected technologies.
- The official Steam listing does not disclose Denuvo.
This is strong evidence that the released PC build does not use Denuvo Anti-Tamper, but the absence of a store-page disclosure is not, by itself, conclusive. SteamDB’s data is also independent corroboration rather than a publisher guarantee.
Is Death Stranding 2 DRM-free?
No blanket DRM-free claim is justified. “Denuvo-free” only means that Denuvo Anti-Tamper has not been publicly identified. A Steam purchase still involves Steam’s client and ownership systems, and an Epic purchase may involve Epic’s launcher and account authentication.
The game’s Steam listing identifies it as single-player and includes Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, HDR, Family Sharing, and a third-party EULA. Those platform features do not prove that every part of the game requires an internet connection, but they do confirm that the Steam edition is integrated with Steam.
Can you play Death Stranding 2 offline?
Denuvo’s absence does not guarantee offline play. Offline behavior can depend on the storefront, whether the game has previously been installed and authenticated, and the current game build.
On Steam, previously authenticated games can sometimes launch through Steam’s offline mode, but that is a Steam feature—not evidence that the game has no DRM. Cloud saves, updates, achievements, and online services may not work while offline. The Epic edition should be treated similarly: community reports have claimed offline launching, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish universal support for every system or version.
DEATH STRANDING 2 also includes asynchronous social features. Those online functions are separate from the question of whether the core single-player campaign needs a continuous connection.
Does the lack of Denuvo improve performance?
Not necessarily. Without Denuvo, players do not need to account for that particular anti-tamper layer, but its absence does not prove that the PC port will run faster than a hypothetical Denuvo-protected version.
Performance depends primarily on the game engine, shaders, graphics settings, drivers, upscaling and frame-generation options, CPU and GPU limits, and subsequent patches. The official PC requirements list a minimum of 16 GB RAM, a GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB, and 150 GB of SSD storage. The official requirements and performance targets are available on PlayStation’s PC support page.

Yes, in principle. DRM status can change through a patch, so the current answer applies to the PC release examined as of August 16, 2026, not necessarily every future build.
For a later purchase decision, check the current Steam listing, Epic product page, patch notes, and updated build or metadata information. A future article update should also specify the date and version being assessed.
What PC version is covered?
DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH launched on PC on March 19, 2026. The PC release is available through Steam and the Epic Games Store, following the announcement from PlayStation Blog.
The official minimum requirements include Windows 10 or 11 version 1909 or newer, 16 GB RAM, an Intel Core i3-10100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100, a GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB, and a 150 GB SSD. These requirements are relevant when choosing a storefront, but they are not evidence for or against Denuvo.
What about a PlayStation Network account?
The available official PC materials confirm Steam and Epic distribution but do not establish a universal PlayStation Network login requirement for the PC release. Do not assume that a PSN account is required simply because PlayStation Publishing is involved. For storefront-specific installation or account questions, consult the official PC support page and the relevant Steam or Epic support documentation.
Bottom line
DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH does not appear to use Denuvo Anti-Tamper on PC as of August 16, 2026. The Steam release still uses Steam’s platform DRM, and the Epic release should not be advertised as DRM-free without storefront-specific verification. No Denuvo also does not guarantee better performance, uninterrupted offline play, Linux or Steam Deck compatibility, or a permanent DRM policy for every future patch.
