Its Pawns can connect your adventure to other players’ creations, but Pawns are AI-controlled companions: their owners do not join your game. Capcom’s FAQ states, “This game does not support online multiplayer.”
Can you play Dragon’s Dogma 2 co-op with friends?
No. Friends cannot join your world as human-controlled characters, and you cannot enter their session as a co-op partner. The game is a single-player adventure, as its PlayStation game page describes it.

You can hire a Pawn created by a friend, but that character is controlled by the game’s AI. Hiring their Pawn is not the same as playing with that person.
How the Pawn system works
Your Main Pawn
You create a Main Pawn who travels with your Arisen and is controlled by the game. Other players can hire your Main Pawn as a companion in their own adventures.

Support Pawns
You can hire Support Pawns to fill out your party, including Pawns created by friends or other players. The Pawn joins your party; its creator does not. Pawns are AI companions that respond to commands and can help in and out of combat, according to PlayStation.
Capcom lists several network interactions: hiring other players’ Pawns, sharing your Main Pawn, receiving an evaluation for it, and leaving a gift with a Support Pawn before dismissing it. These are asynchronous social features, not live multiplayer. See Capcom’s all-platform FAQ for the feature details.

What changes when you play offline?
You can continue the adventure offline, and Capcom says an offline party can still contain up to four characters. Network access is used for Pawn sharing and related interactions; it is not required for a four-character party.

Can you hire Pawns across platforms?
No. Capcom says Pawns can only be hired by players on the same platform. Do not expect a Pawn-sharing pool that crosses platform boundaries.
How to enable Pawn network features
- Connect to the internet. Pawn sharing and the related online interactions require network access.
- Check the in-game setting. If you started the game offline, open Pause Menu > System > Options > Network and turn on Network Features.
- Rest at an inn while connected. Capcom says this uploads your Main Pawn information. It may take some time before that information is reflected for other players.
For PS5 specifically, Capcom’s PlayStation 5 FAQ says a paid PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play the game. That statement applies to PS5; it should not be generalized to other platforms.

Are Dragon’s Dogma 2 Pawns real players?
No. Pawns are AI-controlled characters, even when another player created them. You can bring another player’s Pawn into your party, but you cannot meet or control its owner in your session. That distinction is the key to understanding Dragon’s Dogma 2’s social features: Pawn sharing connects players’ characters, not their live gameplay.
