So its NES multiplayer mode is confirmed; playing it locally on Switch is not.
Can two people play Fighting Golf on one Switch?
That has not been confirmed. The original NES instruction manual documents a two-player mode, but that only establishes how the NES release works. It does not confirm that Fighting Golf is included in a Nintendo Switch game library or that a Switch version supports local multiplayer.
Check Nintendo’s current game listing or the relevant Nintendo Classics library before treating the game as playable on Switch. Nintendo’s general multiplayer instructions apply to eligible games in those libraries, not automatically to every NES title.
How does multiplayer work in the original NES game?
The Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf Instruction Manual describes player selection and two-player play. Player one uses controller one, and player two uses controller two. This is local play on the original NES, not evidence of Switch compatibility.

How does single-system multiplayer work in Nintendo Classics?
For eligible games, Nintendo Support’s How to Start Local or Online Multiplayer in a Nintendo Classics Game says to open the relevant Classics app, choose the single-system local multiplayer option, select “Two Players,” and confirm a controller for each player. These are general setup directions; they do not verify that Fighting Golf is available in a Switch library.
