Why Geralt’s fate depends on Ciri
The main story has three major outcomes for Ciri: she survives and becomes a witcher, she survives and becomes Empress, or she does not return from her confrontation with the White Frost. Geralt’s fate changes with that outcome. His romantic or retirement ending is a separate choice in the ordinary endings where Ciri survives. Prima Games’ ending guide covers both the Ciri outcomes and Geralt’s possible personal endings.
What happens to Geralt in each main ending?

Does Geralt die in the bad ending?
The grim ending strongly suggests that Geralt dies. After Ciri fails to return, he enters Crookback Bog to face the last Crone. The closing scene shows monsters surrounding him as he mourns Ciri’s medallion and lowers his sword. That image supports the interpretation that the monsters overwhelm him, but the ending does not show an unambiguous death or confirm it in the epilogue summary. AllThings.How describes his death as suggested, while the quest summary says he enters the bog without stating that he dies.
Does Geralt’s romance choice change whether he survives?
No. In the ordinary endings where Ciri survives, Geralt’s personal ending is a separate branch shaped by his romance choices. Depending on those choices, he may settle in Kovir with Triss, retire quietly with Yennefer, or remain alone on the Path. Those outcomes do not turn the Ciri-survival endings into a Geralt-death ending. Prima Games’ guide lists the romance and retirement variations.
