Yes, for most functionality. PlayStation’s official Gran Turismo 7 page says an internet connection is required for most of the game’s functionality. Online play is optional, but that does not mean the full game works offline.
Can you play Gran Turismo 7 offline?
Some offline use is supported, but PlayStation’s official pages do not provide a complete list of modes and features available without a connection. The PlayStation Store listing specifically says you can pause during gameplay or cinematics in offline play. That confirms an offline context exists; it does not establish that the entire campaign or every feature is playable offline.

PlayStation describes GT7 as having a solo campaign, but that description alone does not confirm the campaign is fully available without internet. If you expect to play disconnected, do not assume every part of the game will work.
Do you need internet for online play or PS Plus?
Internet access and online multiplayer are separate requirements. PlayStation labels online play optional and says PlayStation Plus is required for online play. Its separate warning that internet is required for most functionality still applies even if you do not intend to race online.

What about updates?
PlayStation says new content is available through patch updates and that an internet connection is required to download an update. The official product page does not specify a complete offline feature list or guarantee which content remains available without updating.
Which platforms does this apply to?
PlayStation lists Gran Turismo 7 for both PS5 and PS4. Its connection wording appears on the official product page for the game; the pages reviewed do not provide a different offline-mode inventory by console or region.

Is My First Gran Turismo the same?
No. My First Gran Turismo is a separate standalone experience. PlayStation says it does not require internet to play, though online leaderboards do require a connection. That statement applies to My First Gran Turismo, not Gran Turismo 7.
