Usually not for modern Minecraft versions: the main Litematica project targets Fabric for Minecraft 1.14 and later. The maintainer lists a Forge version for Minecraft 1.12.2; later Forge builds are third-party ports, not the official maintained release. Check the game version and loader on the exact file before installing it.
Which versions of Litematica use Forge?
The loader depends on the Minecraft version and the specific Litematica build:
- Minecraft 1.12.2: The maintainer lists a Forge version.
- Minecraft 1.14 and later: The main Litematica project targets Fabric.
- Later Minecraft versions on Forge: Third-party ports exist, including a Forge port for Minecraft 1.16.5 identified on the maintainer’s CurseForge page. These are not the official maintained Forge release. The maintainer says it has not tested some third-party ports and cannot vouch for how well they work.
These distinctions are documented in the maintainer’s GitHub README, the CurseForge project page, and the Modrinth project page. A matching mod name alone does not establish that a file supports your loader or game version.
How to check whether a Litematica download will work
- Find the Minecraft version selected in your launcher profile.
- On the project or port’s trusted release page, check the exact file’s Minecraft version and loader labels.
- If you use Forge on a modern Minecraft version, confirm that the specific file is a Forge port for that exact game version. Read its dependency instructions on the port’s own project page.
- Install the matching MaLiLib build if the selected Litematica version requires it.
For builds described in the maintainer’s README, MaLiLib is required and Fabric API is not required. Dependencies can vary by build, so follow the declaration for the file you select.

What Litematica does—and one server-use caution
Litematica is a client-side schematic mod. Its documented tools include an in-world schematic hologram, overlays showing missing, extra, or misplaced blocks, a material list and HUD, a schematic verifier, and creative-mode helpers.
Easy Place may be rejected by a server’s anti-cheat or trigger an automatic ban. Check the server’s rules before using it there.

The maintainer’s FAQ says to put the schematic file in .minecraft/schematics/ and select it from the Load Schematics menu. The default main-menu shortcut is M, and the configuration shortcut is M+C; keyboard layout can affect the effective keys. See the maintainer’s FAQ for the documented instructions.
