Yes. Nintendo Switch 2 supports variable refresh rate (VRR) in TV mode following a system update released September 10, 2026. The 2025 claim that the console might have lost docked VRR was an inference from changing product-page wording—not confirmation from Nintendo.
What the 2025 Switch 2 VRR story actually said
HotHardware’s April 17, 2025 report raised the possibility that TV-mode VRR would be missing after Nintendo’s product-page wording changed. The report described that conclusion as an assumption and noted that the page could still be receiving last-minute edits. It did not establish that Nintendo had confirmed VRR’s removal. What you need to use VRR in TV mode
- A system update: Install the Switch 2 system update that added TV-mode VRR.
- An updated dock: Nintendo’s update notes say the Switch 2 dock must also be updated.
- A compatible television: TV-mode VRR requires a TV that supports the feature.
- A compatible game: VRR support varies by software, so its availability and effect depend on the game.
Nintendo’s support guidance describes VRR Output as a setting for compatible software and TVs while playing in TV mode. Check the game and display specifications if VRR does not appear to be working; having an updated console alone does not guarantee compatibility. VRR adjusts display refresh timing to track a game’s processing. It does not increase resolution or guarantee a specific frame rate. Nintendo says Switch 2 4K output is limited to a maximum of 60 fps; that limit is separate from whether a compatible game and TV can use VRR. Nintendo Switch 2 features and display settings

Nintendo’s FAQ also says VRR is available in handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, with a compatible TV required for TV-mode use. The docked-mode concern from 2025 is therefore no longer an accurate description of the console’s current support. Nintendo Switch 2 FAQ
