A related report is about Gear 5’s limitations, but it does not verify that this is the event meant by the supplied headline.
What the related report says
An IMDb news index entry attributes a report to GameRant with the headline “After 4 Years, One Piece Bids Farewell To Luffy’s Strongest Transformation.” The entry connects the story to Gear 5, also known as the Sun God Nika form, and says a later chapter exposes limitations. It does not identify that later chapter or provide the underlying manga scene.

The report describes Gear 5 as Luffy’s strongest transformation to that point. That is the report’s characterization, not an official ranking established by the available evidence.
Is Gear 5 gone for good?
No permanent loss is established by the indexed report. A limitation is not the same as a permanent farewell: without the specific chapter or scene, it would be inaccurate to claim Gear 5 is gone for good.

Which chapter does the headline refer to?
The report associates Gear 5’s introduction with chapter 1044, which it says appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 17. It does not say that chapter 1044 is the later chapter involving a limitation. The exact scene behind the supplied headline remains unverified, and the available result does not confirm that any Straw Hat candidate departs.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the wording matters
“Luffy’s strongest transformation” and “the strongest Straw Hat candidate” are different claims. The related report concerns a form used by Luffy; it does not substantiate a character leaving the crew or a permanent loss. Until the specific manga chapter is identified, the headline should not be read as a confirmed plot event.
