Yes. Kinetic Games can ban players for cheating in Phasmophobia, including using exploits, gameplay-altering tools, or services that boost progression. The developer describes bans as progressive, with hacking potentially leading to a more severe penalty.
What counts as cheating in Phasmophobia?
Kinetic Games’ Code of Conduct gives examples of hacking and cheating, and says the examples are not exhaustive. Its End User License Agreement (EULA) also prohibits unauthorized methods or devices that alter or facilitate gameplay to give an advantage.

- Exploiting glitches: Examples include using a glitch to enter a house and exploit the ghost, duplicating items, or using a spot that makes a player unkillable.
- Using gameplay-altering tools: The Code lists speed hacks, changing your or another player’s level or prestige, adjusting ghost behavior, instantly killing other players, and boosting seasonal-event leaderboard scores.
- Modifying game files: Modifying files, decompiling the game’s code, or replacing textures or models are listed as prohibited conduct.
- Buying progression: Paying for, or otherwise using, an external service to increase your level, XP, or money is also included.
What happens if you are caught?
Kinetic Games says bans are progressive: penalties become longer for repeat offenses, while more extreme conduct such as hacking can fast-track a player to a more severe ban. The policy does not set one fixed penalty for each type of cheating.
A ban blocks access to the multiplayer menu, but the Code of Conduct says you can still play single-player. It also says bans are not automatic: “Nothing in our ban system is automatic, meaning we have full control over bans and can cancel them at any time.”

Is a Phasmophobia ban automatic, and how does detection work?
The Code of Conduct’s statement that bans are not automatic is separate from the EULA’s description of software monitoring. The EULA says the game may monitor computer RAM for unauthorized third-party programs that interact with it. If such a program is detected, information may be sent to Kinetic Games, including your account name, IP address, information about the program, the date and time of detection, and hardware specifications and performance characteristics. The EULA says access may be terminated with or without additional notice, but it does not establish that every detection automatically results in a ban.

Report another player
You can report a player through the in-game journal. Reports are viewable by the development team and considered based on the offense and number of reports; Kinetic Games says a single troll report will not get someone banned. The Code of Conduct permits one report per day for each person.

Appeal a ban
If you believe your ban is unjust, email [email protected] with a ban appeal. Kinetic Games asks you to provide as much evidence as possible, including your account link, so it can review the reports and ban. Its policy does not promise a particular outcome or response time.
