Spoilers ahead for Resident Evil Requiem’s endings. No: the game does not establish Leon Kennedy’s permanent death. Post-release coverage reports that Leon survives the favorable ending, while an alternate bad ending can kill him. That makes his fate uncertain within the game, not a confirmed end to his place in the series.
Why Leon’s fate is a real question in Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s series, released on February 27, 2026. Capcom’s announcement introduced the game as a new chapter, while Nintendo’s official description identifies FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy as leads whose journeys intertwine.

That setup puts Leon back at the center of a major story, and the existence of an ending in which he dies can make Requiem feel like a send-off. But an alternate ending is not, by itself, proof that the franchise has made that outcome its lasting continuity.
What happens to Leon in each ending?
Destructoid’s post-release ending guide reports two relevant outcomes. It is secondary reporting, rather than an official Capcom statement defining franchise canon.

So, does Leon die in Resident Evil Requiem? He can, depending on the ending. Is his death ending canon? The available reporting does not support treating the alternate bad ending as a definitive series-wide ruling. It reports that he survives the favorable ending, but does not cite an official Capcom declaration settling canon.
Does Requiem end Leon’s future in the series?
No confirmed future appearance is established, but the idea that Capcom has closed the door on Leon is also unsupported. In May 2026, PC Gamer reported that director Koshi Nakanishi discussed the possibility of bringing Leon back at age 70. That indicates openness to using the character later; it is not an announcement that another game featuring him is planned.

Capcom’s 2025 integrated report said the Resident Evil series had sold over 170 million units. That is franchise-wide sales, not Requiem sales or a measure of Leon’s individual popularity, so it cannot establish what Capcom will do with him next.

Requiem gives Leon a death in one reported alternate ending, but he survives the favorable ending. Neither that alternate outcome nor the director’s comments prove a permanent fate or promise a return. The sound conclusion is that Requiem leaves room for Leon’s story to continue rather than confirming that it ends here.
