Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes place roughly one year after Rise of the Tomb Raider, according to the game’s announcement FAQ as reproduced by Tomb Raider Chronicles. It is the third game in Lara Croft’s Survivor trilogy.

How much later does Shadow take place?
The announcement FAQ gives the interval as “roughly one year after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider.” Tomb Raider Chronicles reproduces that FAQ: Shadow of the Tomb Raider announcement FAQ. The wording is approximate; it does not establish an exact in-universe calendar date. The reviewed official game and franchise pages confirm the sequel and trilogy order, but do not repeat that specific interval.
What does Shadow add to Lara’s story?
The developer describes Shadow of the Tomb Raider as the final chapter of Lara’s origin story. Its premise sends Lara racing to stop a Maya apocalypse, while its advertised adventure includes jungle survival, underwater exploration, tombs, and a hidden city. The announcement FAQ says the civilizations and characters are fictional, with historical references serving as a starting point, and reports consultation with a historian. The story should be understood as fiction rather than a documentary or historically exact account.
