A Star Citizen Game Package is a separate requirement for entering Star Citizen’s persistent universe. You can buy either module alone or own both. Squadron 42 is still in development, however, and cannot be downloaded or played yet.
The short answer
Roberts Space Industries (RSI) treats Squadron 42 and Star Citizen as separate modules. Its package-split announcement says buyers can choose the single-player campaign or the persistent universe, then decide whether to add the other module. In practical terms, a Squadron 42 pledge is not a prerequisite for Star Citizen, and a Star Citizen Game Package is not a prerequisite for Squadron 42.

The distinction matters because the two products provide different kinds of access:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Squadron 42: the single-player campaign, sold as a standalone pledge.
- Star Citizen: the online persistent universe, which RSI says requires a Star Citizen Game Package.
- Both: two separate entitlements, either purchased independently or combined when an eligible checkout offer appears.
RSI’s support pages still describe Squadron 42 as in development and unavailable for download. A pledge gives you the entitlement for release; it does not provide an installable build today.

How the two purchases are separated
Squadron 42 is its own pledge
RSI introduced an “a la carte” package structure so customers could select the part of the project they wanted. The official announcement describes the single-player campaign as one base option and the persistent universe as another, with the other module available as an add-on. Read the original explanation in RSI’s Package Split Information.
That structure means purchasing Squadron 42 alone is a valid choice if your goal is only the campaign. You do not have to add a Star Citizen Game Package simply to hold the Squadron 42 pledge. The later Get Started: Checklist also identifies a standalone Squadron 42 pledge as an exception to the normal contents of a Star Citizen package.
Star Citizen access is a different package
RSI’s checklist states that a Game Package is needed to play Star Citizen. That requirement applies to the persistent universe, not to ownership of the Squadron 42 campaign. A Squadron 42-only pledge therefore should not be interpreted as a Star Citizen starter package, and buying Star Citizen does not automatically mean you own Squadron 42 unless the pledge details explicitly include it.
Buying both modules
If you want the campaign and the persistent universe, you need entitlements for both. You can purchase a Squadron 42 pledge and a Star Citizen Game Package separately, or accept a qualifying Squadron 42 add-on during checkout when RSI presents one. The add-on is an offer attached to certain game-package orders, not a hidden requirement for either product.

What you can play now
Squadron 42 is not currently downloadable. RSI’s support article, updated February 4, 2026, states: “Squadron 42 is currently in development and is not available for download.” The same guidance says a customer whose pledge contains Squadron 42 will be able to download and play after development is complete, testing is complete, and the game has been released. See Where can I download Squadron 42?.
This creates an important difference between owning the pledge and having access to a live build. Your account can show Squadron 42 in its entitlements even though no download button appears. The absence of a download is expected while the project remains unreleased; it does not indicate that you are missing a Star Citizen package.
A Star Citizen Game Package addresses access to the persistent online game, subject to the service’s current account and technical requirements. It does not turn an unreleased Squadron 42 pledge into a playable campaign, and a Squadron 42 pledge does not substitute for the Game Package required for Star Citizen.

The table describes access categories, not a recommendation to buy more than you need. If you only want Squadron 42, a standalone pledge is the relevant product. If you only want Star Citizen, look for a Game Package. If you want both, verify that both entitlements are listed before assuming a bundle contains them.

How to verify what you already own
RSI’s Pledges FAQ directs account holders to My Hangar to inspect the contents of a pledge. Use this check before buying anything again:
- Sign in to your RSI account on the official website.
- Open My Hangar from your account area.
- Find the pledge or package you want to inspect.
- Expand the pledge’s details so its included items are displayed.
- Look specifically for a Squadron 42 entitlement and for a Star Citizen Game Package or other digital-access item.
- Compare those listed contents with the access you want. A listing for one module is not proof that the other module is included.
The official instructions are in RSI’s Pledges FAQ. Checking the expanded contents is more reliable than remembering an old bundle name, reading a forum description, or assuming that every package has the same items.
What happens at checkout
The optional Squadron 42 add-on
RSI says some qualifying game-package orders may show a discounted Squadron 42 add-on during checkout. This is an opportunity to add the campaign to a Star Citizen purchase; it is not evidence that Star Citizen is required for Squadron 42 in general.

If the offer does not appear
Do not treat a missing add-on as a purchasing error or as proof that a second module is mandatory. RSI describes the promotion as conditional, so availability can depend on the specific package and the live checkout. You can instead review the store’s current standalone listings and your My Hangar contents. Do not rely on historical screenshots or a price remembered from an earlier promotion.
Pricing: historical figures versus today’s price
The 2016 package-split announcement listed a $45 base pledge for either module and a $15 add-on. Those numbers were explicitly described as subject to change and may reflect a historical offer rather than a current price. They should not be used as today’s checkout guidance.
| Figure | Status | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| $45 base pledge | Historical amount listed by RSI on February 9, 2016 | Context for the original package split only; not a current price. |
| $15 Squadron 42 add-on | Historical amount listed in the same 2016 announcement | Context only; RSI said prices could change with promotions. |
| Current standalone or add-on price | Not stated in the cited support material | Check the live RSI store and the price shown in your checkout. |
The current Orders FAQ confirms that a discounted add-on may appear, but it does not publish a universal current price. Regional taxes, promotions, and changes to the store can affect what you see, so treat the live order total as authoritative.

Common situations and the right interpretation
“I bought Squadron 42, but I cannot launch it.”
That is expected while the campaign is unreleased. RSI says it is still in development and unavailable for download. Owning the pledge does not provide early access to a finished campaign, and purchasing a Star Citizen Game Package will not unlock a download that does not yet exist.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
“I bought Star Citizen. Does that include Squadron 42?”
Not automatically. The modules are sold separately. Expand the relevant pledge in My Hangar and check its listed contents. Only an explicit Squadron 42 item, or a checkout add-on you accepted, establishes that the campaign entitlement is attached.
“I want only the online universe. Do I need Squadron 42 first?”
No. RSI identifies the Star Citizen Game Package as the requirement for Star Citizen access. A Squadron 42 pledge is not a prerequisite for entering the persistent universe.
“I want both, but the checkout wording is unclear.”
Pause before payment and inspect the order summary. Confirm that the package grants Star Citizen access and that a separate Squadron 42 entitlement appears if you selected the add-on. After purchase, verify the same items in My Hangar. If the campaign line is absent, do not assume it was included because the package name sounded comprehensive.

“Can I add the discounted campaign offer after completing the order?”
RSI’s Orders FAQ says the checkout offer must be accepted before the order is completed and cannot be applied retroactively through that offer. Check the final review screen carefully rather than counting on a later adjustment.
Release timing and expectations
The official material cited here establishes availability status, not a release date. RSI’s support pages say Squadron 42 remains in development and will become downloadable only after development, testing, and release are complete. No date in those sources should be treated as a promise.
For the most accurate decision, separate three questions: which module you want, whether your account already owns its pledge, and whether that module is currently playable. The first two can be answered through the live store and My Hangar; the third remains no for Squadron 42 until RSI announces release and enables downloads.
