Yes. Star Wars: Galactic Racer includes a solo, story-driven campaign, adjustable difficulty, and assists. Its campaign, Arcade events, and Scenarios can be played offline. Multiplayer and connected Arcade leaderboards require an internet connection, as do patches and updates. On PC, you must also connect online the first time you launch the game for authentication.
The game is available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam lists October 6, 2026 as the release date. The details below reflect the official game FAQ, the PlayStation product listing, StarWars.com launch coverage, and the Steam store information checked on October 13, 2026.

What Star Wars: Galactic Racer includes
The core experience is broader than a collection of standalone races. You can follow a single-player campaign, run individual events in Arcade, or select Scenarios for more focused challenges. Online multiplayer is a separate feature and is not required for the offline modes.
| Feature | Available? | Connection requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Solo story campaign | Yes | Offline after any required platform setup |
| Arcade events | Yes | Offline; connected leaderboards require internet |
| Scenarios | Yes | Offline |
| Online multiplayer | Yes | Internet connection required |
| Adjustable difficulty | Yes | Available through the game’s challenge settings |
| Individual assists | Yes | Can be enabled to customize the driving experience |
This means the accurate answer to “Do I have to be online to play?” is no, but only for the modes the developer identifies as offline. It would be wrong to describe the entire game as offline because multiplayer and connected leaderboard features are explicitly online.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
How the solo campaign works
You play as Shade
The official FAQ describes a solo campaign in which you control Shade. The story follows Shade’s entry into the Galactic League and the rivalry with Kestar. StarWars.com identifies Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade as the game’s principal modes, so the campaign is a distinct story-led path rather than simply a playlist of races.
A runs-based structure with meaningful choices
Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster told StarWars.com that the team drew inspiration from runs-based games. His description points to a campaign in which your route and build matter: “We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” Webster says.
In practical terms, the campaign design is built around decisions about your starting vehicle, upgrades, and the events you enter on the way toward becoming a League champion. Those are campaign progression choices, not an indication that multiplayer is available offline.

Campaign expectations

- The campaign is one of the modes confirmed to work offline.
Do I have to be online to play?
What works offline
The official game FAQ states that the campaign, Arcade events, and Scenarios work without an internet connection. That makes the main story and the two non-multiplayer activity types suitable for travel, offline play, or a connection that is too unreliable for competitive online racing.

What still needs an internet connection
Multiplayer requires an internet connection. Connected Arcade leaderboards also require internet access because the game must exchange ranking information with its online service. Patches and updates require an internet connection as well, regardless of whether the mode you want to play is normally offline.
| Situation | Internet needed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Starting the campaign after the game is set up | No | The campaign is listed as an offline mode. |
| Playing an Arcade event | No | Arcade events are supported offline. |
| Viewing or submitting connected Arcade leaderboard results | Yes | Leaderboard synchronization is an online feature. |
| Playing multiplayer | Yes | Online multiplayer needs a live connection. |
| Downloading a patch or update | Yes | The FAQ says patches and updates require internet access. |
| First launch on PC | Yes | PC players must connect online for initial authentication. |
PC first-launch authentication
The PC requirement is easy to miss. Even though the campaign, Arcade events, and Scenarios are offline-capable, the official FAQ says PC players must connect to the internet the first time they launch the game so the installation can be authenticated. Plan that initial connection before taking the PC version somewhere without internet access.
What happens when an update is required
Offline support does not mean the game never needs a connection. Updates and patches are online downloads. If a platform requires an update before starting the game, you will need to connect and install it before returning to offline play. The FAQ does not promise that every future version will launch without an update check, so keep the game and platform software current when you have a reliable connection.
How difficulty and assists work
Adjustable challenge
The PlayStation listing labels the feature “Adjustable Difficulty (Advanced).” It says players can customize the challenge, which is useful if you want a gentler introduction to the handling model or a more demanding race once you are comfortable.
Rank #3
- Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
- Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
- An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
- A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor
Individual assists
The same listing says you can enable individual assists. This suggests a more granular approach than changing one global difficulty setting: you can tailor selected driving aids to your needs rather than accepting an all-or-nothing preset.
There are no confirmed named difficulty presets
The available listing does not name or count difficulty levels. It does not establish a set of presets such as Easy, Normal, and Hard, so those labels should not be assumed. The confirmed feature is adjustable challenge plus selectable assists; the exact menu names and number of settings may depend on the final platform interface or later updates.
- Use adjustable difficulty if you want the overall challenge changed.
- Use individual assists when one part of the driving model is causing trouble.
- Do not expect the official listing to guarantee a specific number of named levels.
- If you are comparing versions, verify the in-game settings on your platform rather than relying on assumed preset names.
Can you pause the game offline?
The PlayStation listing specifically says that gameplay and cinematics can be paused “(offline play only).” This is a platform-listing detail, not a statement that every mode can be paused in every online situation. In an offline campaign, Arcade event, or Scenario, pausing should be available according to that listing. Online multiplayer and connected features should be treated separately because they depend on a live session or service connection.
Platforms and editions
The official FAQ lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as supported platforms. On PC, the game is available through Steam and the Epic Games Store. StarWars.com says the game is available worldwide, while Steam lists October 6, 2026 as its release date.

Choose any supported platform for the modes themselves
The confirmed offline modes are the campaign, Arcade events, and Scenarios, and the FAQ presents them as game features rather than as an edition-exclusive benefit. The important difference is setup: PC requires an online first launch for authentication, while console owners should still expect to download patches or updates when required by the platform.
Plan around your connection
- Install the game while you have a stable internet connection.
- Download available patches and updates before going offline.
- On PC, launch the game once online so first-launch authentication can complete.
- Open the campaign, an Arcade event, and a Scenario while connected if you want to confirm the installation is ready.
- When offline, use those three modes; do not expect multiplayer or connected Arcade leaderboards to function.
Common offline-play problems and fixes
The game asks for a connection on PC
If this happens on the first launch, it matches the stated PC authentication requirement. Connect to the internet, start the game, and complete authentication before disconnecting.

An offline mode will not start after a long time without updates
Reconnect to the internet and check for game and platform updates. The official FAQ confirms that patches and updates require a connection, so an out-of-date installation may need to be brought current before offline play resumes.
Best Value
- Access to “The Vault”. Enjoy a thoughtfully curated collection of various types of development material and in-game assets showcasing the rich history of this iconic title.
- Engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies.
- Advanced 3D rendering enables updated lighting and atmospheric effects.
- A variety of power-ups are made available to the player, including health, shields, weapons and ammunition. For combat, the player may use fists, explosive landmines and thermal detonators, as well as blasters and other ranged weapons.
- Includes immersive environmental puzzles and mazes.
Arcade scores are missing from the leaderboard
Local Arcade events can be played offline, but connected leaderboards are online features. A score made without a connection may not appear in the connected ranking until the game can communicate with the service, if synchronization is supported in that situation.
You are trying to use multiplayer without internet
That is not a setup error. Multiplayer is explicitly an online feature, so an internet connection is required.
Bottom line for campaign and offline play
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a suitable choice if you want a solo racing campaign that remains playable without a constant connection. The campaign follows Shade into the Galactic League, with rival Kestar and run-based choices involving vehicles, upgrades, and event routes. Campaign, Arcade events, and Scenarios work offline, while multiplayer, connected Arcade leaderboards, patches, and updates do not. Difficulty is adjustable and individual assists are available, but no official source names a fixed set of levels such as Easy, Normal, and Hard.
