Bethesda’s latest update found in its official news index is Starfield version 1.16.244, released June 11, 2026. Its notes describe stability, gameplay, and UI fixes, but do not say that many Creation Kit mods are broken. The possibility of a problem with an individual mod is different from evidence of widespread incompatibility.
What Bethesda says about update 1.16.244
Bethesda’s June 11, 2026 update notes describe version 1.16.244 as containing stability fixes and addressing gameplay and UI issues. The listed changes include a freeze while traversing planet surfaces, other crash and stability corrections, gameplay fixes, and UI fixes. They do not name the Creation Kit, identify third-party mods, or report broad mod incompatibility.

That means the official notes do not confirm the headline’s concern that many Creation Kit mods have stopped working. They also do not establish the compatibility status of every individual mod: a patch note that does not mention mods cannot certify that all mods are unaffected.
Why the May update can cause confusion
Bethesda’s May 14, 2026 notes for update 1.16.242 document several issues involving Creations: a crash while viewing Creations, a crash associated with Creations containing legacy data, and a workbench display issue affecting some crafting mods. These are specific problems and fixes in the May update. They are not evidence that the June 1.16.244 update broke many Creation Kit mods.

- Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits
- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
Creations and Creation Kit mods are related to Starfield’s modding ecosystem, but a fix involving a particular Creations crash or crafting interface does not by itself show that a broad set of third-party mods is incompatible after a later game update.
What to check if a mod is not working
The official notes cited here do not verify the status or repair steps for any particular mod. If you are troubleshooting, check the mod’s current author notes and compatibility information before assuming the game update caused the problem or relying on the mod in a save.

- Look for an author announcement or updated compatibility details for your installed version of Starfield.
- Check whether the reported issue matches the mod’s documented requirements or known limitations.
- Do not treat the May fixes or June patch notes as a universal diagnosis or recovery procedure; neither supplies mod-by-mod instructions.
How the Creation Kit fits in
When Bethesda announced Creations on June 9, 2024, it said creators could download the Starfield Creation Kit separately from the game through Steam, and described the tool as Steam-only at that time. That announcement explains how creators could access the tool; it does not establish the compatibility of mods with update 1.16.244.
