Sony’s 2024 announcement describes a playful pair of eyes on the touch pad; a 2025 announcement mentions a new touch-pad twist without explaining what it does.
Do the Astro Bot controller eyes flash or light up?
That claim is unverified. In Sony’s July 29, 2024 announcement, Team Asobi Studio Head Nicolas Doucet described “the trademark playful pair of eyes on the touch pad,” alongside blue accents on the handles and buttons and carved-in sci-fi lines. The announcement does not describe the eyes as LEDs or say they flash. Sony’s original controller announcement is the source for the design description.
Team Asobi later said an updated edition would return with “a new joyful twist to the touch pad.” The cited June 4, 2025 announcement does not specify the mechanism, so it does not establish that the updated eyes light up either. The 2025 announcement leaves that detail unspecified.
What is the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense?
Its official name is DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition. Sony introduced it as a limited-quantity controller tied to Astro Bot, the PS5 game. The original design has blue details on the handles and buttons, sci-fi lines, and the touch-pad eyes; the announcement does not identify the eyes as a separate controller feature.
Astro Bot’s connection to DualSense is functional in the game itself: Sony’s May 30, 2024 announcement described the game using the controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. That describes gameplay support, not a lighting effect on the controller. Sony’s game announcement provides that context.
