Yes, according to developer MADFINGER Games: Patch 0.3.5.0 moved Gray Zone Warfare to Unreal Engine 5.5, enabling parallelized rendering and improving performance on mid- and lower-end CPUs. The studio also reported about 400 MB less VRAM use and about 2 GB less RAM use across systems. Those figures are developer-reported, not independently verified benchmark results, and the patch does not establish a universal frame-rate gain.

What Patch 0.3.5.0 changed

MADFINGER Games released Patch 0.3.5.0 on November 6, 2025. Its official changelog says the game was updated to Unreal Engine 5.5, allowing rendering work to be parallelized. The team described this as “significantly increasing performance on mid- and lower-end CPUs.”

The changelog also lists broader performance, RAM and VRAM optimizations, an internal benchmark tool that suggests settings based on a player’s hardware, and work to reduce gameplay hitching. It reports 120 crashes fixed. The update also changed AI aiming, weapon sway and recoil, and audio. Since these are separate items in a wide-ranging patch, not every improvement should be attributed to the engine upgrade alone.

What the reported memory savings mean

MADFINGER reported about 400 MB less VRAM use and about 2 GB less RAM use “on all systems.” These are approximate figures from the developer’s changelog; it does not state the test hardware, benchmark method, or conditions behind them. Treat them as the studio’s reported results rather than a guaranteed reduction on every PC.

The changelog does not provide before-and-after frame rates or frame-time measurements. It therefore supports the claim that the developer targeted performance improvements, but not a specific FPS increase or a ranking of how much faster the game runs on different hardware. No independent controlled benchmark is established by the cited materials.

What later performance claims refer to

MADFINGER’s later Update 0.4 preview discussed different performance work. The studio said lower-end hardware such as RTX 3060-class GPUs showed improvements, while high-end RTX 4070 Ti-class performance remained in line with the then-current version. It also previewed an expected RAM-use reduction of around 3 GB and said a reworked scope system improved performance by approximately 50% compared with that version.

These are developer preview claims about a later update, not measurements of Patch 0.3.5.0. MADFINGER’s 2025 recap confirms that the UE 5.5 upgrade arrived in Patch 0.3.5.0 and describes broad performance improvements, but it does not independently validate the patch’s performance figures. The game has continued to receive updates since that patch, including the later Winds of War update.

How to check whether your PC meets the requirements

The live Steam listing for Gray Zone Warfare gives the current published system requirements. It lists 16 GB RAM as the minimum, 32 GB as recommended, and requires an SSD; it also specifies CPU and GPU models for its minimum and recommended tiers. Check that listing for the current details, since requirements may change as the game is updated.

  • REQUIREMENTS: Base game Advanced Squad Leader plus Beyond Valor and Yanks modules needed for play. Designed for players aged 18 and above.

Requirements are a compatibility guide, not a promise that upgrading a component will improve performance. In particular, the UE 5.5 announcement does not show that every mid- or lower-end CPU benefits equally, nor does it support a general recommendation to buy a new GPU. If you are considering a memory upgrade because your system has less than the published recommended amount, verify that the kit is compatible with your motherboard and existing memory first. The requirements alone cannot establish a performance gain for your particular PC.

How to judge performance comparisons

A useful before-and-after comparison needs more than an engine version or a single FPS figure. For results to be meaningfully comparable, they should identify:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - PC
  • New Pointstreak system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives
  • Weapons proficiency system that allows you to customize your favorite weapons, making them more effiecent in any map or mode
  • Online/offline 2-player co-op Special Ops Survival mode that earns you experience through 16 frantic objective-based missions
  • New play modes, including: Kill Confirmed mode, Team Defender mode and user generated match modes
  • Integration with 'Call of Duty: Elite,' an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • The game version and the CPU and GPU tested.
  • RAM and VRAM use, along with frame rate and frame-time consistency or hitching.
  • Graphics settings and test conditions.
  • Whether the result comes from an official developer statement or an independently repeatable test.

The Patch 0.3.5.0 changelog does not supply enough test detail for a quantitative comparison across hardware tiers. Its supported takeaway is narrower: MADFINGER said UE 5.5’s parallelized rendering improved performance on mid- and lower-end CPUs, while the memory reductions remain approximate developer-reported figures.
